Maritime Fun Fact: The Port waterfront walkway is part of the San Francisco Bay Trail, which includes 365 miles of access around the Bay.

It is with gratitude that we close our calendar year end for 2025! From maritime policy to waterfront adventures and community opportunities, this month’s newsletter shares the Port’s impact to our region.

Did you know that the Port's maritime commerce is directly shaped by dredging our waterways? Dredging is the removal of sediments and debris from the Port's shipping channel and cargo berths. Recently, members of Congress introduced bi-partisan legislation called the Dredging Coordination Improvement Act, aiming to improve Port operations.

Feeling like a visit to the waterfront to explore the local fauna and flora? Come visit our dynamic fishing pier, which after a long unforeseen closure has reopened for our community. We share more about activities to do at the pier beyond fishing.

With 2026 around the corner, it’s time to prepare for our annual Port sponsorship program. Learn how your contributions can create unforgettable experiences for the community at the waterfront.

Federal Dredging Legislation Introduced

California Congressman Kevin Mullin and Mississippi Congressman Mike Ezell introduced bi-partisan legislation, the Dredging Coordination Improvement Act – a proposal to facilitate better collaboration between the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and non-federal sponsors (like ports) across the nation related to dredging.

The proposed legislation is part of the Water Resources Development Act, which sets the framework for the USACE dredging program and includes the following:

  • Requires the Army Corps of Engineers to consult with stakeholders on the location and timeline of dredging activities
  • Prioritizes maintenance dredging for commerce and navigation channels above dredging for recreation
  • Facilitates timely communication with non-federal sponsors regarding dredging schedule changes and available federal funding

We thank Congressman Mullin for his stewardship to improve the Port's operations.

Visit the Port's Dynamic Fishing Pier

Did you know that the Port’s fishing pier is built for more than reeling in the catch of the day? While it’s a great spot for a fishing day, it’s also a perfect viewing platform.

At the fishing pier, you can watch a beautiful sunset, Rock the Dock performances or the annual drone show. There is also a see-through grade on a section of the pier, creating an immersive maritime experience that allows viewers to see what lies below the water's surface.

The Port fishing pier is open to the public from sunrise to sunset every day; the Port welcomes all to stop by any time.
