Special thank you to the City of Redwood City who distributed over 16,000 sandbags throughout the recent series of winter storms.

We wish our community a joyful new year as we kick off 2023. The Port of Redwood City looks forward to continuing to uphold our leadership in maritime commerce, waterfront recreation and serving Silicon Valley.

This year, the Port has several initiatives we are advancing including the Redwood City Ferry Terminal Project. We are also pleased to offer multiple community events and opportunities for residents and visitors to visit our beautiful Port.

It’s also that time of the year when we launch our annual sponsorship program. Over the program's 15-year history, the Port of Redwood City has infused $350,000 into our community by awarding grants to 23 local non-profit organizations. We are honored to continue the program this year and encourage local organizations to apply now through April 10.

Warm Regards,
Kristine A. Zortman
Executive Director, Port of Redwood City

Redwood City Ferry Terminal Project advances

The Redwood City Ferry Terminal Project is advancing toward bringing public ferry service to our greater Silicon Valley community. The project is now entering the environmental review process, set forth by the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).

As the project moves forward, the Port has issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) to select a qualified consultant team. The selected firm will perform technical studies and analysis on impacts associated with air quality, biological, ecological, water quality, traffic and more. Review the RFP by clicking here.

We would like to thank the Water Emergency Transportation Authority for its partnership on this project. The future ferry service will support the Port’s FEMA Federal Staging Area designation for emergency preparedness and response.

Port partner spotlight: Marine Science Institute

Nestled off the shoreline of Redwood Creek, the Marine Science Institute (MSI) has been advancing marine science research and education throughout our community since 1970. MSI fosters a sense of curiosity and enriches science education and awareness for all ages through its mission to inspire environmental stewardship through hands-on learning and exploration of San Francisco Bay ecosystems.

Next month, MSI is hosting a four-day February Break Marine Science Camp for kindergarten through 5th-grade students. Campers will spend the days exploring our local marine habitats and learning about different animals. Learn more about the February Break Marine Science Camp.
