Did you know that the Port is one of the oldest west coast ports in operation since 1851?

May is underway and we are excited to celebrate Maritime Month. The maritime industry fuels operations and success of the Port of Redwood City.

On Wednesday, May 22, the Port of Redwood City, along with other ports across the nation will come together to celebrate National Maritime Day to recognize its revolutionary history in shaping world trade. For over 100 years, the Port has been a maritime champion in the broader Silicon Valley region and we are proud to reflect on all of the key players who contribute to the maritime industry.

I encourage you to visit the San Mateo County History Museum this month to learn more about our Port's rich history of maritime. Thank you to our entire maritime community for what they do and their dedication to enhancing marine operations.

Also exciting this month is the new Ferry Ballpark Service Pilot Project which will transport community members for a day at Oracle Park. Our favorite Rock the Dock free concert series can kick off the weekend every Saturday. A summer filled of fun is coming to the Port!

Warm Regards,

Kristine A. Zortman

Executive Director

All About Maritime

Maritime commerce is one of the Port of Redwood City’s three core values and it’s exciting to celebrate National Maritime Day on Wednesday, May 22, with other ports across the nation.

The Port salutes all mariners, shippers, dockworkers and global supply chain workers who have a strong commitment to advancing maritime operations.

Let’s put your knowledge to the test by anchoring in on some maritime trivia:

  1. A _____ describes the floating container that’s anchored to the bottom of the sea to maintain its position.
  2. The pointed area of an anchor used to catch in the seabed is called a _____?
  3. What year did Congress approve National Maritime Day?
  4. Which U.S. president was named after the largest warship?
  5. Who was the first woman to sail across the entire world?
  6. What are three countries the Port of Redwood City imports and exports goods?
  7. What process scoops sediment from the creek bed to alleviate blockage and decreases the channel depth?

Submit Your Comments and Questions on the Notice of Preparation for the Ferry Terminal Project Environmental Impact Report

Earlier this month, the Port of Redwood City released a Notice of Preparation (NOP) document to help prepare for an Environmental Impact Report (EIR) regarding the Ferry Terminal Project. The Port of Redwood City wants to hear from public agencies and the general public on the NOP. Here is how to get involved:

Comments from public agencies

The Port invites input from relevant public agencies to provide their insights on key elements to be addressed within the Environmental Impact Report (EIR) like the scope, content and recommendations for mitigation measures aligned with the agencies’ mandated duties.

Comments from the general public

The Port also encourages members of the general public to contribute their perspectives on the environmental aspects to be covered within the EIR for the Ferry Terminal Project.

The comment period is available through Friday, May 31 at 5 p.m. To view the NOP document, click here. Comments should be sent to Don Snaman, Project Manager at c-dsnaman@redwoodcityport.com with your name or the contact person in your agency.

Your feedback will give you the opportunity to provide refinements and adjustments to the analysis of the environmental impacts of the Ferry Terminal Project that will be important for the Port of Redwood City and other public agencies to consider when implementing the project.

Please email ferryterminal@redwoodcityport.com if you have any questions.
