PORT BREAKS GROUND ON $152 MILLION WILMINGTON AVALON PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE AND PROMENADE GATEWAY PROJECT | | |
With shovels in hand, federal, state and City of Los Angeles officials joined Los Angeles Harbor Commissioners, Port of Los Angeles officials and community leaders to mark the start of construction on the $152 million Avalon Pedestrian Bridge and Promenade Gateway project in Wilmington.
The community-focused project will create unprecedented public access to the Wilmington Waterfront Promenade via a new signature 380-foot-long bridge, which will also connect to a new open space public recreation area -- the Avalon Promenade Gateway -- also being built as part of the project.

Highschool students across the Los Angeles area gathered aboard the USS IOWA to celebrate their 13th annual Black History Month, Gravely Celebration Experience, which honors the career of Vice Admiral Samuel L. Gravely Jr. Admiral Gravely was the first African American to take command of a U.S. Navy combatant ship and be promoted through the ranks to vice admiral.

As International Bird Rescue of San Pedro marks its 55th year of taking action for birds in a changing world, they proudly selected the Elegant Tern as their anniversary bird. This lesser-known seabird's pivotal story helped shape the future of the International Bird Rescue.
The Elegant Tern can be spotted along West Coast beaches, and can be mistaken for a small gull in flight at first glance, until a distinctive high-pitched call stands out and a black-capped, sleek silhouette glides by.

PORT OF LA HOSTS 12TH ANNUAL LUNAR NEW YEAR FESTIVAL

The Port of Los Angeles' 12th Annual Lunar New Year Festival was held on Saturday, February 21 at CRAFTED at the Port of Los Angeles, from 3 - 7 p.m., attracting over 1,600 festival-goers who helped welcome in the "Year of the Fire Horse".
After the performances, the first-ever Lunar New Year drone show wowed guests as three-dimensional images of Angel's Gate Lighthouse, a cargo ship, the Port of LA's logo, a running horse, and other Chinese zodiac animals came to life in the sky.

| On Tuesday, March 3, six panelists reviewed a 16-month redecking closure of the Vincent Thomas Bridge proposed by Caltrans, and discussed the multi-agency plan to minimize cargo disruption at the Los Angeles-Long Beach port complex. Speakers included Bill Mongelluzzo, Senior Editor, Trans-Pacific, Journal of Commerce by S&P Global; Alan McCorkle, President and CEO, Yusen Terminals; Osama Megella, Assistant Division Chief-Program / Project Management and Principal Engineer, Caltrans District 7; Matt Schrap, Chief Commercial Officer, Forum Mobility; and Gene Seroka, Executive Director, Port of Los Angeles. A detailed review of schedules, detours, technology deployments, operational contingencies, and a parallel exploration of a privately financed replacement bridge were all addressed. While challenges are expected, forecasted delays will be measured in minutes, not days. | | |
