LOS ANGELES MAYOR KAREN BASS DELIVERS APRIL 21 STATE OF THE CITY ADDRESS

Gene Seroka represented the Port of LA as Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass delivered her State of The City address, April 21, 2025. Addressing Seroka she said, "We will strategize with you and fight for you to protect our longshore workers, truckers, manufacturers, business owners big and small."
She also highlighted Tim McOsker's diligence in securing San Pedro as home to Team Croatia while hinting at, "Maybe a few other things."

Since 2000, the Port of Los Angeles has conducted four comprehensive biological surveys of Los Angeles Harbor, with a fifth survey in progress. Beyond the industrial exterior of the Port is a complex community of marine life below the surface.
Port Environmental Specialist Victoria Wood reveals new findings about the abundant marine life thriving above and below Port waterways, while Cabrillo Marine Aquarium Programs Director Jim DePomei shares how small decisions we make in our everyday lives can bring big improvements to local marine life.

Joe Kramek, President and CEO of the World Shipping Council, joined Gene Seroka for this month's cargo briefing. Kramek discussed the impact of proposed fees on container ships built in China, decarbonization of the supply chain and other trade topics.
March 2025 loaded imports came in at 385,531 TEUs, 1.6% higher compared to the previous year. Loaded exports landed at 122,975 TEUs, a 15% drop from 2024. The Port processed 269,900 empty containers, 23% more than last year.

The International Bird Rescue is caring for dozens of double-crested cormorant chicks and eggs at its San Pedro facility.
"We received over 60 eggs and nine live chicks on March 10, mid-morning they came into care," said International Bird Rescue wildlife center manager Kylie Clatterbuck.
In collaboration with the Los Angeles County Department of Beaches and Harbors, biologists discovered over 20 nests in a wind-damaged eucalyptus tree in Marina del Rey. Some nests contained as many as three to four eggs.
