SAN PEDRO BAY PORTS TO GIVE QUARTERLY CLEAN AIR ACTION PLAN UPDATE ON APRIL 2

The ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach will give a progress update on the San Pedro Bay Ports Clean Air Action Plan (CAAP) at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 2. The meeting will include information on the Ports’ 2024 air quality achievements and 2025 priorities, as well as a status update on the truck and cargo handling equipment feasibility assessments.

WEEKEND CLOSURE SCHEDULED:

MARCH 28-30

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announces a full closure of westbound State Route 47 (SR 47) at Vincent Thomas Bridge from 7 p.m. Friday, March 28 to 7.p.m. Sunday, March 30 for a structural inspection of the bridge.

The closure is required for Caltrans engineers to perform structural inspections of the main cable bands located along the bridge’s suspension cables. An additional closure of the westbound lanes may be required the weekend of April 4.

Celebrating its 17th year, the 2025 Port of Los Angeles Harbor Cup took place from March 4-6 at the Los Angeles Yacht Club in San Pedro.

This year, a total of 10 teams competed in one-design Catalina 37 keelboats during the intercollegiate invitational regatta.

USC Trojans proudly won the trophy this year, marking their first victory in 15 years.

FRESH RENDERINGS FOR WILMINGTON'S AVALON BRIDGE AND PROMENADE GATEWAY

Visitors would enter the park through an entry plaza at Harry Bridges Boulevard, consisting of a hardscape area centered on an artistic sundial that could also be used for public gatherings. Pedestrians would then be steered south along the namesake promenade of the project, as well as a historic walk lined with palm trees.

MARINE MAMMAL CARE CENTER RESPONDS

TO SURGE IN POISONED SEA LIONS

Sea lions and other ocean mammals in Southern California are falling victim to a poisoning event that a local expert calls the worst in recent memory. It is stranding the mammals along the coast as warnings are issued to beachgoers of the threat posed by animals that are transformed by their illness.

As of Friday, at least 140 sea lions with symptoms of domoic acid poisoning had been taken in by the Marine Mammal Care Center in San Pedro, according to Chief Executive John Warner.
