Maritime Fun Fact: Did you know the Port's wharf can withstand an 8.9 magnitude earthquake? This is thanks to the resilient infrastructure investments we have made over the years.

As we welcome a new season here at the Port, we highlight September as National Preparedness Month! At the Port of Redwood City, we are proud of our role in supporting regional emergency preparedness initiatives. The Port's investment into our infrastructure to withstand 8.9 magnitude earthquakes and sea level rise, underscores our role as a FEMA Federal Staging Area for the Peninsula and south San Francisco Bay region. The safety and security of the Port, its dedicated workers and waterfront are paramount in our day-to-day operations.

Additionally, the Port of Redwood City is greatly appreciative to U.S. Congressman Kevin Mullin, who secured $700,000 in funding to support new stormwater infrastructure and improvements, furthering the Port's environmental stewardship.

Even though summer is coming to an end, our Rock the Dock concert series lives on. Stop by the waterfront any Saturday through Nov. 2 from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. to see live performances from some of the best bands in the Bay Area.

Finally, don't forget to mark your calendar as our team has been eagerly preparing for PortFest 2024, occurring on Saturday, Oct. 5, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 475 Seaport Court. We hope you join us for this unforgettable day.

Warm Regards,

Kristine A. Zortman

Fiscal Year 2024 Report

The Port ends its fiscal year with an overall increase in both revenue and tonnage. In FY24, the Port handled 1.83 million metric tons of cargo, a rise from the 1.82 million reported in fiscal year 2023 (FY23). The Port witnessed a similar increase in gross revenue, closing its fiscal year at $10.2 million in FY24 compared to $10 million the previous fiscal year.

The increase in revenue and cargo highlights the Port’s dedication to maritime commerce. This growth enhances the Port's impact as an economic engine for the broader Silicon Valley region and south San Francisco Bay, while creating diverse job opportunities on the waterfront, all of which strengthen the region.

National Preparedness Month

September marks National Preparedness Month. At the Port of Redwood City, safety and security is our number one priority. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) designated the Port as the Federal Staging Area (FSA) for the South San Francisco Bay region, which means we'll be there during an emergency to move first responders, residents and critical supplies when roads, bridges and airports may be inaccessible.

We are proud of our role in supporting regional emergency preparedness initiatives, and will continue to do our part to protect the community and surrounding environment.

Storm Infrastructure Funding

The Port of Redwood City received $700,000 in Community Project Funding from U.S. Congressman Kevin Mullin appropriated for stormwater infrastructure improvements, further reducing contaminants from entering the San Francisco Bay during storms.

These infrastructure enhancements are vital for the Port as it faces the challenges of rising sea levels, increased king tides and storm-related flooding.
