Scoutbook  is the BSA's online unit management tool and helps Scouts, parents and leaders track advancement and milestone achievements along the Scouting trail. AND, beginning January 1, 2019, Scoutbook will be available to all units FREE!  Scoutbook is a great tool to help with recording advancements seamlessly eliminating the need to fill out advancement forms and reports!  It even generates a shopping list.  And, it's a great tool for communicating with your leaders and parents.

New Position-Specific Training Courses        
IMPORTANT NEWS

New position-specific training courses for Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts/ Scouts BSA will be available January 2, 2019. Due to these changes, any incomplete training courses won't carry over to the new learning plan. Please complete any in-progress training before December 31, 2018.
 
This applies to you if you've started, but haven't finished , your position-specific training (Cubmaster, Den Leader, committee chair, Scoutmaster, assistant  Scoutmaster).   You'll want to finish that training by midnight on Dec. 31, 2018.

Camp Card Kick-off

SAVE THE DATE! 
Camp Card Kick-off will Monday Jan. 28th at 6pm at the Scout Service Center. This will be the best place to learn all about the camp card. Commit your Troop/Pack/Crew/ Post now, and you will be able to pick them the same night. Camp Cards are the Seneca Waterways Council spring fundraiser to help Scouts go to summer camp. Scouts who sell can earn up to 55% in commission. Register now before it's too late!

Merit Badge Saturdays            
Starting 2019

At the Scout Service Center in Rochester, we are offering a variety of different merit badges. All led by Counselors who are knowledgeable in their fields of study.  Most Saturday will offer at least 2 badges not available at summer camp, so you will be introduced to new skills and hobbies, or even a new career!
On January 12th we are hosting Electricity & electronics  Merit Badge!  





Trainer's Edge         
Jan. 26 & 29, 2019

Trainer's EDGE is for adult Scouters who are interested in working with our training teams for Unit & District Training Courses, Scouting University, or scout event where presentations are a part of the program.  For Wood Badge and NYLT staff, it is required training. You will Learn ideas and methods to improve your presentations. The Trainer's EDGE experience is useful in Scouting and your non-Scouting career with any topic or BSA-related topic, such as advancement, Pack camping, backpacking, high adventure, etc





Okpik        
Jan. 25-27, 2019

Camping in the snow is more than just summer camping with more clothes! With Okpik, Techniques and behavior are taught which will increase your enjoyment and safety and will add to your overall camping skills. You'll have a great time finding out how to travel easily in the snow. You'll see how to build a winter shelter. You'll learn the proper techniques for winter camping. You'll also learn about cold weather health concerns, proper food, clothing, how to make your own clothing and gear, and a lot more.





Wood Badge          
May 17-19, 2019

Built upon the legacy of past Wood Badge successes, the new Wood Badge integrates the best of modern leadership theory with the traditional strengths of the Scouting experience. Through activities, presentations, challenges, discussions, and audiovisual support, Wood Badge participants will be engaged in a unified approach to leadership that will give them the skill and confidence to lead well. Through a wide range of activities, games, and adventures, participants will work and play together as they put into action the best Scouting has to offer. Adirondack Treks            
2019

If your Scout is looking for that next challenge of high adventure, but is having a hard time convincing the troop/crew, then we have an answer for you! Solo Treks will give your Scout that opportunity to truly explore the Adirondacks. Whether its backpacking, canoeing, or both, The Adirondack trek Center  at Camp Massawepie is a full service program . By pairing him with a Guide and other like minded youth from across the council, we will send him on a truly unique experience.





YPT2 Trainings
Held at the Council Service Center
  • Thursday, Dec. 27th - 6:00pm-8:30pm
  • Saturday, Dec. 22nd & 29th - 10:00am -12:30pm
Youth Protection Training is required for all adult leaders for Packs, Troops, Crews, Ships, and Explorer Posts. You may take the training online at my.scouting.org or in-person at the Council Service Center on any of the dates listed above.  These in-person training sessions at the council office offer participants the opportunity to ask questions.

Assistant Camp Ranger:    Seneca Waterways Council is hiring for two part-time assistant rangers to join our ranger team at J. Warren Cutler Scout Reservation. If you are interested in this position please complete the application process through Indeed. If you know of someone that might be interested, please send them the link. We anticipate that interviews will take place in early November.  
 

Program Aides  for the City Scouting Outreach program  - part time position. The Council is seeking high energy, enthusiastic, and self-motivated individuals to help deliver the in-school Scouting program in the City of Rochester. Candidates should be available mostly between 2:30pm - 5:30pm. Morning and Saturday hours are available as well. Contract position through July 5, 2019.
