Message from Mrs. Rach

It’s hard to believe that it’s already November!  All October we’ve been working hard in lots of different ways.  Students have been learning new literacy and math skills and have even dug into science and social studies learning, too!  In Specials classes, some of our students have been getting ready for upcoming music concerts and creating art to match the concert’s theme; in PE, we just wrapped up the Haunted Gym which is always a favorite.

We’ve also been focusing on managing our impulsivity; one of the ways that we’ve been practicing this school-wide is by acting with purpose.  At recess, each grade level has a basket of equipment they’re responsible for and each grade level has set goals around cleaning up their recess materials.  I am happy to share that each grade level has recently met their weekly goal and they celebrated with an extra recess!

Student Services

A Message from Our School Counselor, Ms. Wiseman:

Dear Families,

As you know, our school counselor and classroom teachers are teaching children important skills for getting along with others and doing well in school during classroom graduate profile lessons. This helps our campus be a safe, respectful place where everyone can learn.

To further help our campus be a safe and respectful place, we are going to use the Second Step Bullying Prevention Unit. In these lessons, your child will learn specific skills to help stop bullying. Students will learn how to:

• Recognize when bullying is happening (bullying is one-sided, on purpose, repeated, and hurtful)

• Report bullying to a caring adult

• Refuse to let bullying happen to themselves or others

• Be an upstander who stands up and is part of the solution to bullying.

In addition, your child might bring home simple, fun activities called Home Links that will help you understand what your child is learning about at school. They also give your child another chance to practice skills for handling bullying.

For bullying prevention to work, we need your help, too! Get involved in making our school a safe and respectful place by letting us know if you hear about bullying at our school. Make sure your child knows to tell you or someone at school if he or she is being bullied. And give your child the clear message that it is never okay to bully others.

If you have any questions about the Bullying Prevention Unit or the Second Step program, please contact our school counselor, Sarah Wiseman.  Thank you for helping us make our campus a safe, respectful place where everyone can learn.

Sincerely,

Ms. Wiseman

NEW - Cushing Holiday Gift Shop

Whether we like it or not, the holidays are right around the corner. And Cushing would like to take a little pressure off of you. New this year, Cushing will have their very own Holiday Gift Shop for the students to shop and enjoy. Students will experience the thrill of buying gifts “secretly” for family members in our decorated shop.

The Holiday Gift Shop will take place the week of December 5-9 during all lunch recesses. We may add additional after school times if needed.

We will need a lot of elves to help make this a fun and successful event. Our elves will help the younger children pick out gifts when needed, run the cash register, help at the wrapping table, along with set up and take down. Love the holidays and throwing on that holiday sweater?? Click here to sign up.
