Message from Mrs. Rach

As a school we continue to work on growing our understanding of ways to problem solve through tricky situations.  Related to this work, the Habit of Mind we are focusing on for the month of December is persistence.  We kicked off our learning about persistence with a student-led skit from our 4th graders at our last all-school assembly.

As learners, we know we can practice persistence by:

  • working hard and not giving up.
  • keeping a positive attitude while growing.
  • following through on a goal from start to finish in a timely way.
  • knowing that if I keep working at something,  I can get better at it.
  • considering different ways a problem can be solved.

If you’d like to learn more about how to talk with your learner(s) at home about persistence, check out this one page handout from The Institute for Habits of Mind.

Cushing News & Announcements

Holiday Giving - A Few More Helpers Needed

'Tis the season of giving and Cushing's Star Council is organizing an opportunity to sponsor some local children for the holiday season through the Christmas Clearing Council of Waukesha County. If you are interested in giving back to a family in need, please use this SignUp Genius link.

Please return your gifts to Cushing on or before 12/6 - labeled, wrapped, and ready to be placed under the Christmas tree.

Thank you for considering the opportunity to brighten Christmas for some local children and families.

Lost & Found

We have a lot of Lost items waiting to be Found. If your student is missing something, there’s a real good chance it’s in our Lost & Found. The next time you’re at Cushing, swing by to see if anything belongs to your family. Parents seem to have the magic touch with finding lost items.

**Anything left by the time we head out for Winter Break will be donated.**

4K Fair - January 18 at Wales Elementary, 5:30-7:00

Winter Gear Rules

All Grades: Please make sure all outdoor clothing is labeled with your child(ren)'s name. Lots of students have black snow pants. :) Bringing hats, mittens, and gloves every day is a good idea, too.

Snow Gear MUST go home every day. We need to keep the hallways clear for our evening cleaning crew. Plus, wet snow gear doesn’t dry well at Cushing (it can get smelly, too).

5K-3rd Grade: Snow Pants AND boots must be worn to play in the snow. If a student forgets their snow gear, they will stay on the blacktop for recess. This can cause lots of tears, so please remind your student to bring their snow gear to school every day once the snow starts falling.

4th & 5th Grade: Boots are required, Snow Pants are optional for recess.

Cushing PTO

The PTO is offering a Holiday Gift Card Program to say "Thank you for a great start to the school year and we wish you a Happy Holidays!” To all Cushing teachers, staff and bus drivers. Participation is optional.

Here’s how the program works:

You make a monetary contribution to the teacher/staff members and bus driver of your choice. Your child’s gift is then combined with all other contributions for that particular staff member and the staff member will be presented with one BIG gift card to the stores of their choosing. The gift cards will be presented in a Thank You card that contains the names (NOT the amounts!) of all the families who contributed to the gift.

THIS IS A 2 STEP PROCESS:

STEP 1: Please make sure to enter your family name (EXAMPLE: SMITH FAMILY) in this Google Form:

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfsx5gMSY8P8bAtzypzN34IVjVzIFWQQ67iG0th__dCVGCk1A/viewform?usp=sf_link

Then select the teachers you'd like to give to and list the dollar amount (MUST be WHOLE dollar increments - no change please, $1, $3, $5, $10, $20, etc.).

Then total up your order.

STEP 2: Copy this CLASSMUNITY LINK to pay your total with a debit/credit card. These orders will be compiled and gift cards will be distributed to each individual. www.kmsd.edu/staffgivingprogramholidayseason2022

Any amount is appreciated!

*Program runs until Friday, December 9th.

Cushing Holiday Gift Shop: December 5-9

Our Holiday Gift Shop opens Monday!! If your child plans to shop, they may do so during their lunch recess. Please send your child with cash or see below on how to use your credit card and put money on a voucher. A few questions we've gotten…

What if I put more money on my child's voucher account than they use? Any money left on a voucher that is unused, will be returned to you after the Holiday Gift Shop closes.

Can I use a credit card at the shop on Friday, December 9, if I shop before or after the Cushing Family Movie? We only will be able to accept cash or check at the shop. Credit cards may be used by purchasing a voucher.

How do I purchase a voucher? Go to FunHGS.com. By using FunHGS.com you are able to use a credit card to purchase a voucher for your child to shop at the holiday shop. The voucher will work just like cash at the shop and if not used in full you will receive cash back for the balance.

Do you still need volunteers? We sure do!! Click here to sign up.
