Dear Families,
As we continue our school-wide work around respect, students have engaged in further discussions around what respect looks like, feels like, and sounds like, during student services lessons with Ms. Wiseman. As part of this work, the visual below has been created for students, teachers, as well as families to use as a reference and conversation tool when discussing respect and how it should look, feel, and sound to ourselves and others. By sharing this visual with families, our hope is to create a common language between home and school.
| |
This week during student services lessons, Ms. Wiseman and classroom teachers co-facilitated the first step of creating classroom respect agreements - brainstorming ideas for the 4 categories, or areas. The 4 areas of the classroom respect agreement are: student-teacher, student-student, teacher-student, and student-classroom. Here are some of our Cushing Stars engaged in that work:
Once classroom respect agreements are finalized, these will be shared out via Seesaw. As a staff, we feel it is important for parents to be aware of the commitments within the respect agreements in which their child(ren) are working hard to uphold, in order to best support their classroom community. Thank you for your support in this work.
-Ms. Hanson

Planning Ahead for Spring Recess
As a lot of you are aware, Cushing will be getting a new playground. This project should be completed by the beginning of next school year. At some point this spring, the removal process of our old playground will start and that area will be off-limits and not used during recess time. There are other areas for students to use outside during recess time, but we will be offering alternative activities for students in lieu of using the off-limits playground equipment and are asking for your help! Recently, there has been high interest in jigsaw puzzles and would like to add this as an indoor choice. If you have any 50/100/200/300 piece used puzzles that you are looking to get rid of, Cushing would gladly take them! Thank you for considering.
3rd Grade Robotics & Science FUN!
This week our 3rd grade students have been exploring our new Vex Go robotics kits, working to design their own super cars, and learning about force, motion, and speed. Mrs. Klatt, Mrs. Schlueter, and Mrs. Finn worked to integrate 3rd grade physical science standards and robotics to create this engaging learning experience for our students! Throughout this learning experience, students are learning about:
- What is force?
- What causes force and can it be changed?
- How does a motor and gears affect speed?
Take a look at some of our students time-testing their super cars:

To help the Rach family as they navigate their new crew and day-to-day life, we have put together a Meal Train and will be delivering food on Wednesdays through the rest of the school year. Meals, snacks, and gift cards can be dropped off at Cushing Elementary.
Click HERE for the Meal Train. Thanks for your help. We all know it takes a village.

News from the Health Room
Strep Throat
Just a reminder that students who are Positive for Strep Throat must have 24 hours of antibiotics AND be fever-free for 24 hours before they can return to school. Pediatricians have been telling parents that their child only needs 12 hours of antibiotics, but we require 24-hours of antibiotics.
It’s been a tough season for Strep. Thanks for helping us lessen the spread.
