Message from Ms. Hanson

Dear Families,

It is hard to believe that next week is our last week of the school year! Despite only having a few days left in the school year, I took the opportunity to speak to students on announcements this week regarding stepping up our behaviors during our last few days of school. It has been noticeable that there has been an increase in lack of care for materials and equipment, leaving areas messy and not cleaning up, and not following adult directions. The end of the school year brings many special events, field trips, and changes in the daily routines and schedules. The notion of school ending and the unknown of the summer break schedule may also create some anxiety for your student, and oftentimes students need helpful reminders to stay on track with responsible behaviors. We ask that you help support the end of the school year by having a conversation with your student(s), reminding them to put their best foot forward during our last few days of school with the following tips: Remember to take care of the fun games and materials at school so that they last for everyone to use. Always clean up your messes and put things back where they belong. Your teachers work very hard to plan, teach and support you, so please help them out by following their directions.

We also have a few staffing updates for the next school year that we are excited to announce!

  • Music - Emilie Post will be our music teacher next year. Mrs. Post has a comprehensive background in music education, specifically in the area of theater arts, an area in which she holds a Bachelor’s degree. In addition to her Bachelor’s degree in theater arts, she also holds a concentration in musical theater.

  • Special Education - We are excited to share that Mr. Michael Frans has joined our team at Cushing and the Kettle Moraine School District. With degrees in general and special education, as well as a minor in reading and writing, Mr. Frans brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to his role. Having previously served as a special education teacher in the Elmbrook school district for four years, he is excited to be returning to the Kettle Moraine community. Prior to his time in Elmbrook, Mr. Frans worked as a paraeducator, student teacher, interventionist, Summer Academy teacher, and special education teacher in Kettle Moraine.

  • Additional 1st Grade Section - We are excited to welcome Sue Ferch to our team next year. Sue comes from 12 years teaching 1st and 2nd grade learners at St. Marcus Lutheran School in Milwaukee. Sue holds degrees in both social welfare and justice as well as education with a minor in social studies.

We look forward to the new staff that will be joining us next year, and those who will be filling new roles. Wishing everyone a lovely weekend filled with great weather!

Fifth Grade Farewell Information - Friday, June 9th @ 9:30

Fifth grade parents and families are welcome to attend our Fifth Grade Farewell Ceremony at 9:30 on Friday, June 9. Unfortunately, we do not have capacity for the younger Cushing student siblings. There is a school-wide "clap out" at 8:45 that the younger students will participate in to say goodbye to the fifth grade students. After the farewell ceremony, fifth grade students take pictures outdoors with their families, classmates and teachers and leave for the day. Cushing does ask that younger siblings stay until the end of the day, which is 12:35.

Design Lab

Thank you to all that have volunteered to help in Design Lab this year and to all that have donated supplies for Design Lab throughout the year. Without all your help, Design Lab would not exist, and it is something the children love to do.

For our final days we will continue to take:

  • small boxes
  • toilet paper and kitchen rolls

so we have some ready for next school year.
