Message from Mrs. Rach
If you’ve driven through our carline or spent time on the playground lately, then you’ve probably seen the large pile of dirt and rocks near our nature trail.  If you’re wondering what’s going on, we’re excited to share that we’ve officially broken ground on our pavilion project funded by our Cushing PTO.  The project was proposed and approved by the PTO during the 2019-20 school year; despite setbacks over the past two years, we are excited that the project is moving along.  We’re looking forward to using the pavilion as an outdoor classroom as well as another optional playground space for our learners.  Keep an eye out for more updates!
Cushing News & Announcements
Veteran’s Day
Veteran's Day is a time we remember and honor the men and women of our Armed Services. The staff and students at Cushing would like to honor current and past service members for Veterans Day. If you or a family member is/was a member of any service branch and would like to participate in a Veterans Day event at Cushing please complete this form.

Third grade students will be singing at this event. Third grade parents are invited to attend, in addition to any veteran that is a family member of a student at Cushing (any grade level). This event will take place the week of Veterans Day in the afternoon, but the exact date is TBD. More information will be coming soon. Please fill out the form and attach pictures of veterans in your family, whether they can attend or not. Thank you!

**LAST CALL** Cushing Family Directory
Our PTO is still waiting for more families to submit their contact information for our Cushing Family Directory. If you’ve been putting it off, now is the time to click HERE and do it. :) The deadline for submissions is Wednesday, October 6th. The directory is used by many families to reach out about play dates, birthday invitations, carpools, etc.

Fun Fact: The sooner more families enter their information, the sooner it will be available.

If you want more information about the Directory, scroll down to the PTO section of this eMessenger.

School Picture Retake Day - Tuesday, October 12
Empire Photography will be at Cushing on Tuesday, October 12th for our students who need their picture taken/retaken.  Pictures will be taken in the morning and we will do our best to have them done before recess!

If you would like your learner(s) to have their picture taken/retaken, please let their teacher and Mrs. Mirek ([email protected]) know.

Front Lobby Morning Drop Offs
Just a friendly reminder that we no longer offer lobby drop offs in the morning. Unless your student is arriving late, please utilize the Car Line (we know the lines are long) or bus options. Thanks for your cooperation.

Headphones
Please ask your learner if their headphones at school are still working. We’re only a few weeks into the school year, but headphones have already started to break/not work. Headphones are used often throughout the day, in multiple classes. A working pair helps both students and teachers. Thanks!
Health Room News
Covid Testing

Decathlon in Wednesday, October 6th!
Cushing's ninth annual Decathlon will be held on Wednesday, October 6th 2021 at St. John's Military Academy.

The Decathlon challenges students to tackle 10 fun events, and they will raise funds through pledges for their efforts. Some of the events include: bowling, hula hoop, and relay races, to name a few. 4K will have a special course of their own!

The Decathlon will be held during the school day and parents will help volunteer to make the event a success!

ALL students will be receiving a Decathlon T-Shirt!

ALL donations are used to support Cushing Staff, teachers, and classrooms

Would you like to spectate?
While the Decathlon is a day for our Cushing Stars, spectators are welcome to watch our students in action. Please know that ALL spectators are required to have a Volunteer Application on file at the school BEFORE the day of the event. Please stop by the Cushing Front Office for an application. The application can also be found on the KM website: www.kmsd.edu > Family Resources > Forms > Volunteer Applications. Completed applications can be handed in/emailed to Mrs. Mirek ([email protected]).

If you have a Volunteer Application on file (applications need to be filled out EVERY year), please check in with the Front Gate Volunteer or Volunteer table when you arrive at the Decathlon. Once checked in, you may then watch the fun from outside the fenced Track and Field area.

How Can You Help this Year?
Volunteer to help on the day of the event: The sign-up genius is live. Click here to volunteer for one of the events. There are only a few spots left and this is the only way to see the action from inside the fence. Don’t miss the opportunity to see the action first hand. If you have signed up to volunteer, please submit your volunteer form to Mrs. Mirek ASAP. Email Jen at [email protected] with any questions.

Donate Online: Go to www.kmsd.edu/cushingdecathlon and give today. The online decathlon page will be open for donations until 11/1/2021.

Return your Pledge Form: Pledge forms were sent home in students’ folders. You can return the pledge form to school in an envelope with a check.
