Message from Mrs. Rach
We know that practicing reading at home is important.  You might be wondering, “What can I do at home to help my child?”  Check out this Reading at Home Video for some practical tips about practicing with your child.
One easy way to do this is to make reading part of family time. Here are just a few tips for integrating reading into daily family activities:

  • Read bedtime stories.
  • Play a board game.
  • Visit your local library to check out some new books.
  • Read a recipe and cook something yummy together.
  • Create a comfy reading space in your home.
  • Have your child be in charge of reading the grocery list when you go to the store!
  • While waiting at a store or an office, practice rhyming words with your child.  “What is a word that rhymes with cat?”
  • When you’re reading to your child, practice reading with expression.

This document also outlines tips for reading with your child.
Cushing News & Announcements
A Note From the Health Room
Deciding when to keep a sick child home from school can be a difficult decision. To help identify illnesses in our schools, parents/guardians are encouraged to report their child’s specific symptoms when calling in sick to the health room.  If your child is not feeling well (fever, harh/hacking cough, very runny nose, fatigue, painful sore throat, vomiting, etc), it is important for them to stay home and rest.  When a child is sick at school and not feeling well, it is difficult for them to concentrate in class.

Absences Due to Covid/Quarantine
If a student is ill/absent due to covid or quarantine, asynchronous work will be given to them.  In the case of an entire class needing to enter a temporary distance learning environment, then learning will occur synchronously.  As in years past and prior to covid, it is important to first focus on resting and feeling well.  If your child is feeling well enough to do schoolwork, then please contact your child’s teacher.

3rd Grade Families - Veterans Day Program
Families of 3rd graders, you are welcome to have your child leave with you after the conclusion of the concert.  There will be a sign out sheet when you enter the building that must be completed; this will serve as the end of day/early dismissal “sign out”.  If there are siblings in another class and you would like to sign them out, we will be compiling that information on the sign out sheet as well.  It is important that this information is filled out in advance so we can communicate with the classroom teachers.

Veterans Day Program
Veterans Day is a time we remember and honor the men and women of our Armed Services. The staff and students at Cushing would like to honor current and past service members for Veterans Day. If you or a family member is/was a member of any service branch and would like to participate in our Veterans Day event at Cushing, please complete this form.

Third grade students will be singing at this event. Third grade parents are invited to attend.  Additionally, any veteran who is a family member of a Cushing student (any grade level) is invited to attend along with one guest of the veteran's choice.

This event will take place on Veterans Day - Thursday, November 11th at 2:00pm in the Cushing gym. Please fill out this form to attach pictures of veterans in your family, whether they can attend or not. Thank you!

It’s Time for Layers!
It's that time of the year when we need to start wearing layers of clothes to school. Please make sure that you start sending your child(ren) with a sweatshirt or coat labeled with their name in case they forget it on the playground. Also, keep in mind that snow pants, boots, jackets, hats, and gloves will be needed in the near future. Please make sure all outdoor clothing is labeled with your child(ren)'s name.
