As winter approaches, KM wanted to share its extreme-weather policy for elementary schools with families. Unlike the middle school and high school campus, if inclement-weather days arise, our elementary learners WILL NOT move to distance learning and will not be expected to engage synchronously. As in the past, we challenge our learners to play games, read books, and add movement to their day while away from school.
The only time a school or individual classes would need to pivot to distance learning would be due to COVID infection rates/cases closures. In those instances, devices will be made available and teachers will be meeting synchronously with learners via distance learning. You will receive specific information from each classroom teacher about this shift, if it should occur. Please be sure that you have signed up to recieve district alerts as you will receive text and email notifications in cases like this. You can ensure that your contact information is current and up to date by logging on to Infinite Campus and verifying your contact information and preferences.

Snow Pants & Boots
5K-3rd Grade: Snow Pants AND boots must be worn to play in the snow. If a student forgets their snow gear, they will stay on the blacktop for recess. This can cause lots of tears, so please remind your student to bring their snow gear to school every day once the snow starts falling.
4th & 5th Grade: Boots are required to be in the snow, Snow Pants are optional for recess.
**Reminder** Snow Gear MUST go home every day. We need to keep the hallways clear for our evening cleaning crew. Plus, wet snow gear doesn’t dry well at Cushing (it can get smelly, too).
Coats
If it's 50 degrees or colder, coats MUST be worn.
Hats, Gloves, and Mittens
Mittens or gloves and a hat should be worn when it is cold/snowy. Please label all items.
Outdoor Recess vs. Indoor Recess
Students will be going outside for recess when the Wind Chill is 0 and above.
*For the safety of our students, outdoor recess rules may be modified based on current weather conditions.
