Greetings families! This week, we've continued learning while still having a little fun with our winter dress up days. Similar to other weeks, there have been a variety of learning experiences occurring in our classrooms ranging from biography projects to buddy class activities to creating in our Makerspace and programming robots.
As we take some time away from school these upcoming weeks, I hope that you and your families are able to spend time together appreciating the joy and warmth of the holiday season. On behalf of the Cushing staff, we wish you a wonderful winter break and a Happy New Year.

Cushing News & Announcements

**LAST CALL** Lost & Found
Our Lost & Found is overflowing. If your student is missing something, there’s a real good chance it’s there. The next time you’re at Cushing, swing by to see if anything belongs to your family. Parents seem to have the magic touch with finding lost items. Anything left by the time we go on Winter Break will be donated.
Glass Water Bottles
Please do not send glass water bottles to school. We’ve had a few shatter this year, which causes a safety hazard as well as a mess.
4T & 5T Boys Clothes Needed
Our Health Room is running low on 4T & 5T clothes for boys, especially pants (athletic or jogging). If you have any you no longer need, we would love them. Thanks!
Parents United
The mission of Parents United is to present timely and relevant information in a neutral forum for parents and professionals who work with children. The lectures and presentations offered each school year provide links, knowledge and networking to the community for the ultimate benefit of our students. Click HERE for the 2021-22 Free Programs.

Snow Pants & Boots
5K-3rd Grade: Snow Pants AND boots must be worn to play in the snow. If a student forgets their snow gear, they will stay on the blacktop for recess. This can cause lots of tears, so please remind your student to bring their snow gear to school every day once the snow starts falling.
4th & 5th Grade: Boots are required to be in the snow, Snow Pants are optional for recess.
**Reminder** Snow Gear MUST go home every day. We need to keep the hallways clear for our evening cleaning crew. Plus, wet snow gear doesn’t dry well at Cushing (it can get smelly, too).
Coats
If it's 50 degrees or colder, coats MUST be worn.
Hats, Gloves, and Mittens
Mittens or gloves and a hat should be worn when it is cold/snowy. Please label all items.
Outdoor Recess vs. Indoor Recess
Students will be going outside for recess when the Wind Chill is 0 and above.
*For the safety of our students, outdoor recess rules may be modified based on current weather conditions.

Sentry Receipts Classroom Contest!
|
An easy way to help the Cushing PTO earn money is to collect your Albrecht’s Sentry receipts while you shop for the holidays. This is also a fun way for your child's classroom to earn a prize! The classroom with the highest receipt totals for receipts dated between November 13, 2021 and January 9, 2022 will win the contest and earn a prize for their classroom! Each classroom will have a red holiday bag to collect their Sentry receipts.

Box Top Collections
Cushing’s goal is $1,000. Now is the time to download the APP and submit your holiday grocery receipts. Want to see how your grade's Box Tops earnings are adding up — and how they compare to others at your school? Now you can give credit to a specific grade when you scan, and those earnings will be added to your school's Give Credit Leaderboard!
Here's how it works: Now you can give credit to a specific grade at your school when you scan a receipt with the Box Tops app. Then, check out your school's Give Credit Leaderboard to see which grade has earned the most!
To view your school's Give Credit Leaderboard, tap on your school's earnings progress bar at the top of the Box Tops app home screen.
December PTO Meeting Summary
- PTO sponsored pavilion is under construction and will hopefully be completed this spring (pending weather). Check out the concrete pad and PTO sign.
- Staff Giving Program was a huge success! Thank you to all the families who contributed this year.
- John Stellmacher-CFO, presented on enrollment trends and projections for KM and specifically Cushing. Enrollment numbers have decreased at Cushing over the last 3 years. Options and ideas discussed on next steps. More discussions to come.
- Information was presented on a new projector and screen to be used in the Gym that would be more user friendly for presentations, videos, possibly PTO sponsored movie nights. How to cover the cost is being discussed.
- Fundraising events, dine for Cushing, City Tins, Milwaukee Pretzel Company and others have been very successful. Events like these allow PTO to cover the cost for the 5th grade ropes course and the busses for:
- The decathlon
- 5k, 1st & 2nd grade pumpkin patch
- 4th grade trip to Retzers Nature Center
