The Kettle Moraine School District requires face coverings for the 2020-21 school year as a mitigation measure to help ensure schools remain open. It is essential that the spread of COVID-19 is controlled in order to keep students and staff in our buildings, teaching and learning face-to-face. Face coverings, combined with other mitigation measures, have served the district well in the few weeks schools have been open. The district is in regular communication with Waukesha County Public Health and they strongly recommend face coverings in schools. This recommendation aligns with the CDC and the State Health Department. The face covering requirement is in place for the entire 2020-21 school year, regardless of the governor’s existing order.
Car Line Reminders
Our car lines have been running relatively well and that is in large part because of your understanding and patience. A few reminders as we continue to work towards greater efficiency:
- pull up as far as possible in the carline.
- display your carline name tag during drop off.
- when possible, please stay in your vehicles.
- learners should exit on the side of their vehicle that is closest to the building.
- avoid cutting out of line to go around others who are waiting unless a Cushing staff directs you to.

Empire Photography sent emails to families last Friday afternoon with a link to view/order school pictures. If you haven't received an email or if you have any questions, please email Empire Photography at email@example.com or call at 608-257-2941 between 8:30 am - 5 pm, Monday - Friday.
School Picture Retake Day - Tuesday, October 6
Empire Photography will be back at Cushing on Tuesday, October 6th for our Face-to-Face Students who would like their picture retaken. Pictures will be taken in the morning and we will do our best to have them done before recess!
If you would like your learner(s) have their picture retaken, please let their teacher and Mrs. Mirek (firstname.lastname@example.org) know.
Hot Lunch - Correction
Not all the information in the email from the Food Service Department (along with the info in last Friday’s eMessenger) regarding free hot lunch pertained to hot lunch at Cushing. Cushing students are not allowed to buy seconds. In addition, students who bring a cold lunch to school are not allowed to purchase a la carte items.
Along with the short amount of time students have to eat lunch, we are also trying to limit students moving about in the cafeteria after they sit in their assigned spot. Thank you for understanding.
Missed an eMessenger? Don’t worry! Links to previous eMessengers can be found HERE.
As we are off and running into a new school year with new practices and procedures, we know this will impact how we conference with families. To continue to ensure the health and safety of our learners and staff, we will not be holding in-person conferences with families. We have long known that not every learner needs to have a conference on a predetermined date; responsive and proactive conversations with parents are important. With students being out of school for so long, it makes sense to have contact with families a little sooner than in years past.
Instead, our teachers are available to, and plan to, connect virtually or by phone with each family by October 12. These times could be before school, after school or during the school day if it works.
We look forward to continuing to partner with you in supporting your learners together.
If you have any questions, please reach out to your child’s teacher.
