A MESSAGE FROM THE CEO
Now that we’re approaching almost a full year of COVID-19 adjustments, we all have stories about how we’ve had to pivot both personally and professionally. At Sunshine, our first response was to make sure our teams were properly trained in the latest procedures and technology available for combating this virus as well as any future infectious disease outbreaks. We turned to our industry’s leading trade organization, ISSA, to secure training for our top managers.

Most recently, we earned a GBAC STAR™ Accreditation for our headquarters offices here in South Florida and are looking forward to helping our customers and others obtain the designation for their offices. You’ll read more about this accreditation in the article below.

Our pledge to all of our clients always will be to work hard to use the best cleaning techniques for keeping people safe. First earning the GBAC designation and gaining important expertise was our way of demonstrating this commitment.

Sunshine Cleaning Systems Earns GBAC STAR™ Accreditation
for South Florida Headquarters
The headquarters of Sunshine Cleaning Systems in the City of Oakland Park, near Fort Lauderdale, Florida, has received the GBAC STAR™ accreditation, the newest designation for facilities that meet strict cleaning and disinfection procedures for handling infectious disease outbreaks, including coronavirus strains such as COVID-19. According to the worldwide cleaning industry association (ISSA)’s Global Biorisk Advisory Council (GBAC), which offers the program, Sunshine is one of the first janitorial firms in the United States to receive the designation.

Widely accepted by industry leaders as the seal of approval for facilities following strict cleaning and disinfection procedures for handling infectious disease outbreaks, the STAR™ accreditation establishes specific guidelines to assist facilities in their cleaning, disinfecting and infectious disease prevention protocols.

The 20-part program includes a facility commitment statement, emergency preparedness and response, facility infection disease prevention practices, a worker health program, and audits and inspections. To date, more than 3,000 facilities around the world have earned this certification. Members of the Sunshine team also have individually completed the GBAC fundamentals course.

Congratulations to Derek Auckland and Cy Angelos!
Chief Operations Officer Randy Kierce recently announced two company promotions. Derek Auckland is now Florida Operations Manager and Cy Angelos is now Carolinas Operations Manager.

An employee of the Fort Lauderdale-based company for nearly 10 years, Derek now oversees all statewide service departments, including janitorial, window and pressure cleaning, and specialty services. For the previous five years, he served as Regional Sales and Quality Controller for Sunshine.

Cy, who joined Sunshine in 2008, now oversees all service areas for the North and South Carolina region. He transferred to Charlotte in 2013 to oversee floor care at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Today, he supervises all services for Sunshine in the Carolinas, including work at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport, Columbia Airport, Wilson Air, Nascar Hall of Fame and Charlotte Convention Center.

Congratulations to both Derek and Cy for assuming new and important leadership roles at Sunshine.

Escalator and Moving Sidewalk Cleaning
Cleaning escalators and moving sidewalks require the use of an advanced, high-tech machine. The technically advanced escalator cleaning machine used by the Sunshine team thoroughly cleans both the escalator step and the riser with a 15-brush system. It’s the only machine approved by escalator manufacturers worldwide. No dismantling of the escalator is required, resulting in reduced downtime and cost savings. The result is a like-new appearance. The cleaning of landing plates and rail glass is handled as well.
