Message from the Chair--April, 2018

Greetings, Fellow Democrats,
In a little over one month, we will participate in an important election, probably one of the most important in recent memory. We will elect federal representatives for the Senate and House, determine our statewide front-runners for Governor, Attorney General, Auditor, Secretary of State, Treasurer and Supreme Court. We will also vote on Issue 1, a congressional redistricting reform amendment that would create a process for future redistricting [Gerrymandering] to be adopted with bipartisan support. The goal of this legislation is to have local communities (municipalities and counties) stay together which should result in Congressional district boundaries being more compact. Support for Issue 1 is endorsed by the Ohio Democratic Party.

“We’re also proud to back Issue 1, which would not have become a reality without the hard work of grassroots activists from across the state who collected hundreds of thousands of petition signatures for the Fair Congressional Districts for Ohio campaign. Their activism pushed Statehouse Republicans to take action on an issue that has poisoned Ohio and national politics for decades. We encourage all Ohioans to vote this May in favor of Issue 1,” said ODP Chairman, David Pepper.
State Senators, State Representatives and County-wide candidates, including Judges, County Council and the County Executive will also be on the ballot. There are also over 900 Central Committee [Precinct] candidates on local ballots as well. When it comes down to Election Day, May 8, 2018, it is clear that ALL POLITICS ARE LOCAL. We are working hard to elect Democrats, especially the Endorsed Democrats. Click

Issue 9
, the Health and Human Service Renewal levy is also on the ballot. You can find more information about the levy

During my visits to Democratic Clubs around the county, I am excited to see the enthusiasm about this upcoming election. Spreading the word about voting in the midterm election to your family, friends and neighbors is critical as we strive to increase voter turnout.
We will continue to engage the electorate by registering new voters, promoting a robust vote by mail program, Get Out the Vote (GOTV) activities and supporting endorsed candidates. Additionally, we participated in several youth voter registration activities in High Schools throughout the County as well as the March For our Lives event. We also plan to at the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections to pass out our Official Sample Ballot during In-Person voting hours. Click
