2022 Leth "Ried Steinagrund" Grüner Veltliner

Third-generation winemaker, Franz Leth Jr., bottles classic expressions of Grüner Veltliner, which are already fantastic values relative to other top Austrian producers. Today’s special pricing makes for an even more crazy deal.

This single-site bottling comes from Steinagrund, a terraced, sustainably-farmed vineyard featuring stony soils and 30-year old vines. Grapes here are grown without herbicides or pesticides and are hand-harvested in small lots. When poured, this dry young white gives peppery pear, red apple, and muted yellow flower flavors with suggestions of stony minerals. In the mouth, it offers a fleshy texture, with brightness and hints of white peach, green pear, radish, and arugula, finishing long with mineral accents and bright acidity.

Drinkable now, this is a deceptively good white. Sealed with a screw-top closure, it will drink beautifully for another 10 years without any issues. At our Cyber Monday price, it is not to be missed!

“From sandy-loam soils dropping a mighty layer of loess, the 2019 Ried Scheiben 1ÖTW Grüner Veltliner opens with a deep, complex and calcareous-scented nose of ripe white fruits, tobacco and crushed stones. Very elegant and refined on the balanced palate, this is a rich and full-bodied, firmly structured and sustainable Scheiben Veltliner that is more dramatic and grippy than the generous Roter Veltliner from the same site. The finish reveals stimulating and gastronomic grip yet indicates that the wine should be cellared for 2-3 more years. 13.5% alcohol. Tasted at Schloss Gobelsburg in June 2021.”
