SATE VI Workshop - Earning Trust, One Bug at a Time
Software must be developed to have high quality: quality cannot be "tested in". However auditors, certifiers, and others must assess the quality of software they receive. "Black-box" software testing cannot realistically find maliciously implanted Trojan horses or subtle errors which have many preconditions. For maximum reliability and assurance, static analysis must be used in addition to good development and testing. Static analyzers are quite capable and are developing quickly. Yet, developers, auditors, and examiners could use far more capabilities.

Draft NIST Internal Report (NISTIR) 8259, Core Cybersecurity Feature Baseline for Securable IoT Devices: A Starting Point for IoT Device Manufacturers
The publication defines a core baseline of cybersecurity features
that manufacturers may voluntarily adopt for IoT devices they produce. The document builds upon NISTIR 8228, Considerations for Managing Internet of Things (IoT) Cybersecurity and Privacy Risk, and provides information on how manufacturers can identify and implement features most appropriate for their customers beyond the core baseline.

The public comment period for this document closes September 30, 2019 . See the Publication details or the NIST news article for additional information.

Supply Chain Cybersecurity Summit Agenda
August 12-13 | Arlington, VA
Your supply chain is an overlooked threat vector

Recent high-profile security breaches starkly illustrate the growing concern around supply chain cyber security. Adversaries are exploiting suppliers and vendors to gain access and damage their intended target. It’s a viable threat vector because most organizations are not able to monitor and assess every third party in their supply chain. To effectively safeguard against this growing risk, security teams have adopted an integrated approach that leverages controls and processes to ensure third-party organizations are meeting established security requirements.

The Supply Chain Cybersecurity Summit will bring together leading security practitioners to explore practical methods for protecting products, networks, and data from supply chain attacks. Experts will draw upon their own experiences and recent notable breaches as they provide concrete strategies and tools that can be used to assess, detect, and resolve third-party vulnerabilities.
