Network Vulnerability Scans |
With constantly evolving cyber threats throughout the world, cyber carriers have taken steps to mitigate some of the risks inherent in providing cyber coverage. One of these steps is conducting non-intrusive network vulnerability scans on prospective and current insureds.
These scans do not attempt to penetrate the cyber security of a prospective or current insured. They do, however, identify any “open doors” that are visible from a basic drive-by scan of an entity’s domain. This information is then provided to the prospective or current insured to allow them the opportunity to resolve the vulnerability. This is an extremely important tool for all entities to use to improve their cyber security.

Federated's cyber reinsurance partner, TMHCC, also employs this same tactic when working with our members. All new applicants’ domains are scanned and provided with the information necessary for their IT departments to resolve any potential urgent vulnerability that is identified. Depending on the vulnerability, coverage may be reduced or denied unless the vulnerability is resolved.
For existing Federated cyber insureds, TMHCC is conducting non-intrusive network vulnerability scans on a regular basis, typically monthly. As potential urgent vulnerabilities are identified, we provide our members with the results of the scan and information necessary to assist with their IT department’s remediation efforts. Failure to address the potential vulnerability could jeopardize the ability to obtain cyber insurance at renewal.
Because the frequency of these scans is typically monthly for more than 700 of our members, we will only notify you if a potential urgent vulnerability is found. New vulnerabilities are constantly being identified; so, just because you didn’t have a vulnerability identified during one scan, doesn’t mean a new vulnerability won’t show up during the next scan!
