Cynthia's Story: Attitude is Everything

Cynthia Link describes her experience at St. Anne's Mead

and the Next Step Program.

When Cynthia Link broke her femur, she thought of two things: Exercising and going home. After surgery and rehab, Cynthia chose the Next Step program of St. Anne’s Mead (SAM), to help achieve her goal of recovery and wellness. “I am very independent person, and I am not used to being dependent on others for care. But at St. Anne’s Mead, I found I could trust this exceptional staff in every department," said Cynthia. The Next Step program is for seniors who are being discharged from rehab or a hospital stay but need additional help through assisted living and physical and occupational therapy before returning to independent living. When admitted to SAM in October 2023, Cynthia required a two-person transfer and a Hoyer lift. Upon discharge in late March 2024, Cynthia had excellent posture and was able to walk independently with a walker. “Her attitude about therapy was excellent, she wanted to get strong and mobile,” said Therapy Management, Inc.’s Kristina Zubeck, Director of Rehabilitation. While Occupational Therapist Dan O’Shea added “Cynthia is a text-book example of how to use physical therapy to heal and regain independence. She was determined, she wanted to exercise every day and she achieved what she set out to do.”

Cynthia looks forward to spending time with her son, Fred, who recently moved back to the U.S. after a living in Switzerland for many years. “And I will return to volunteering for Scouting where I have been involved for 35 years. I saw the positive impact it had on my own sons, and look forward to contributing again,” she said. We miss Cynthia’s positive attitude and love of public affairs, but we are glad we helped her achieve her goals.
