October 16, 1931: On this date, Winnie Ruth Judd allegedly killed two friends in a fight, stuffed their bodies in trunks, and shipped them to Los Angeles. The foul smell coming from the trunks tipped off a baggage handler, who notified the Police. Judd was captured, tried, found guilty, and sentenced to death. Her death sentence was overturned after a hearing found her mentally incompetent, but it all earned her the title of "Trunk Murderess".
