Join us as we celebrate our 27th annual Día de los Muertos exhibition with a free Family Festival!

Enjoy fun art activities including a hojalata workshop with Life on Earth Art, live dance performances by Paquiyollotzin, Ballet Folklorico de Petaluma, and Mexican eats from Taqueria Los Altos De Jalisco!


The Museum’s annual Día de los Muertos exhibition features artwork and altars created by local artists including Life on Earth Art.

Artist in Conversation: Chiyomi T. Longo and Satri Pencak

In this conversation artist Chiyomi T. Longo and art curator Satri Pencak will discuss Longo's work included in the Museum's exhibition, Nature Abstracted, as well as the artist's process and career.


Chiyomi Taneike Longo was born in Japan and received her MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute. She has been a Santa Rosa, Sonoma County resident for over three decades. Of her work, critic Peter Frank wrote “…Longo’s art is grounded in the appreciation of nature that pervades all aspects of Japanese sensibility.”

Curator's Tour of Marijke’s Grove at Paradise Ridge Winery

Sunday, November 5, 2023 at 3:00PM

Join the Museum for a guided tour of Marijke’s Grove at Paradise Ridge Winery with curator and artist Briona Hendren (credits include the Voigt Foundation, Museum of Sonoma County, Luther Burbank Center for the Arts, and many others).


Explore the expansive sculpture garden on a perfect four-acre grove of wooded glens with ancient, gnarled oaks and open meadows. “Galleries” are connected by simple footpaths, and sculptures were placed among mossy rocks and grassy clearings. This is a one-of-a-kind exhibit, that combines cutting edge art in a natural environment. The tour will culminate with a tasting of Paradise Ridge's excellent sparkling wine.

Nature Abstracted: Chiyomi Taneike Longo, Bob Nugent, and Younhee Chung Paik features three Bay Area artists who make abstract art inspired by nature. These artists differ in style and technique, but they all share a deep love and respect for the environment and humanity’s relationship to the natural world. 

2023 Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead)

Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a joyous remembrance of the lives of family members and loved ones who have passed and a celebration of the cycle of life. The holiday is celebrated on November 1st and 2nd throughout Latin America, but is more closely associated with Mexico, where it originated.


The Museum’s annual Día de los Muertos exhibition features artwork and altars created by local artists, students, and collectors including Life on Earth Art.

Sonoma County Stories

September 9, 2023 - Ongoing

 

Sonoma County Stories is a permanent Sonoma County history exhibition that invites visitors to engage with the past in a brand-new way: through the power of storytelling. The exhibition captures Sonoma County’s rich history, defined by a confluence of cultures and people, and a powerful connection to the land. Featuring stories representing the many diverse histories and cultures of the county, this ambitious and innovative permanent exhibition has at its core the Oral Histories of Gaye LeBaron.

34th Annual Artistry in Wood

November 18, 2023 - January 7, 2024


Artistry in Wood is an annual exhibition presented by the Sonoma County Woodworkers Association (SCWA) in partnership with the Museum of Sonoma County. Staged every year since 1988, it is recognized as one of the premier fine woodworking shows in North America and has become a favorite among museum visitors.

Fall for Color at Sonoma Botanical Garden


Nature Abstracted tempting you to experience the outdoors? This fall, our neighbor Sonoma Botanical Garden is one of the most unique places in Sonoma Valley to Fall for Color! 


With its one-of-a-kind Asian Woodland full of an array of deciduous trees and perennials – many rare and endangered – take in the season’s pageant of rich colors and tantalizing textures, now through early December.

Public Star Parties at the Robert Ferguson Observatory

November 4 & 24 7:00-10:00 PM


Join the RFO for presentations on astronomy in their classrooms throughout the course of the evening. Starting at dusk, the Observatory’s three main telescopes are open for your viewing. Friendly and knowledgeable docents are available to answer your questions.
