Weekly Testing Schedule for Non-diagnostic
COVID-19 Screening
Thank you to all the families and staff who have voluntarily participated in our Screenings. We ran over 1,500 tests last week with only 1 test showing a possible clinical significant finding. While testing alone will not protect our students and staff from contracting COVID-19, it is an important part of our mitigation strategies. Beginning on Tuesday, September 8, we will begin our weekly testing regime for all students and staff who have signed the consent form. Normally, the testing protocols will begin on Monday, but due to the holiday, we have a condensed schedule. Please see below.

Tuesday, September 8-All PreK-2 students who have consent forms on file will receive an envelope with a test vial enclosed. Students will bring the envelope home and follow the directions below.

1. Sanitize Hands
2. Open Test Tube and provide a "sample" of saliva about a third to half-way up the tube. (must be saliva and not just bubbles). Saliva not bubbles should be up to the 1/3 or so mark of the tube
3. Close the lid tightly on the tube.
4. Wipe down the exterior of the tube with a wipe
5. Put the vial without the envelope in a small zip lock baggie and store in your refrigerator overnight.
6. Bring sample in the baggie to school in the morning and turn it in at drop off. There will be someone at each entrance to collect the samples.
7. You will only be contacted if there is a possible finding of clinical significance.

Tuesday, September 8-all 8th graders will receive a testing envelope from their last period teacher in the AM and PM. Students will exit their normal door where someone will be waiting to collect their samples. Samples will be provided OUTSIDE, not in the school building.

Wednesday, September 9- all 7th graders will receive a testing envelope from their last period teacher in the AM and PM. Students will exit their normal door where someone will be waiting to collect their samples. Samples will be provided OUTSIDE, not in the school building.

Thursday, September 10- all 5th and 6th graders will receive a testing envelope from their homeroom teacher in the AM and PM. Students will exit their normal door where someone will be waiting to collect their samples. Samples will be provided OUTSIDE, not in the school building.

Friday, September 11-all 3rd and 4th graders will receive a testing envelope from their homeroom teacher in the AM and PM. Students will exit their normal door where someone will be waiting to collect their samples. Samples will be provided OUTSIDE, not in the school building.

Beginning Monday, September 14, all PreK-2 grade students will receive their envelope each week on a Monday. All other testing days will be moved up one day.

Mondays: 8th (PreK-2 receive envelopes)
Tuesdays: 7th
Wednesdays: 5th & 6th
Thursdays: 3rd & 4th

Canvas Updates
We hope all parents had the chance to join or watch the Canvas presentation on September 1. Canvas is the new learning management system and it is important to be familiar with all of its functions.

Labor Day

As District 102 wraps up its first week of classes and right into the Labor Day weekend, we wanted to take the time to pass along some safe practices that will help our district continue our current model of learning for all students.

Labor Day is traditionally looked upon as that last chance to get away before the end of summer. The events of 2020 might have changed those expectations and plans but we know many of you will be on the road to your favorite relaxation spot. It is still important to take extra precautions to reduce risks associated with the coronavirus.

Here are some ways to stay safe when traveling:
  • Hand sanitizer. Be sure to have some in the vehicle. Small, individual bottles are also handy to take with you when leaving the vehicle.
  • Sanitizing wipes. Keep a packet in the car to wipe down all “contact” areas of the vehicle, such as the steering wheel, shift knob, door handles and seat belt latches Sanitizing wipes also can be used when opening a restaurant door, using a gas pump, sitting down at a table or using a public restroom.
  • Wear a mask. They are required in most municipalities when entering any public building or in outdoor spaces where people congregate.
  • Pack a lunch and more. Packing food and snacks will help reduce the number of stops you have to make, and therefore the number of potential interactions. Opt for single-use packets so people aren’t reaching into the same bag. Bring a cooler with beverages.
  • Social distance. When making a stop, stay six feet apart when standing in lines. Self-seating restaurants typically have their tables spaced, with distance and directional markers on the floor. Consider ordering ahead via a mobile app to further reduce contact.
  • Don’t hesitate to leave if concerned about COVID-19 precautions. If workers are not wearing masks properly -- they should cover the entire mouth and nose -- or there are simply too many people inside, don’t hesitate to leave.

We only offer these as safe suggestions in the new world that we live in and we hope that you have a great Labor Day Weekend and see you on September 8!
