Happy Friday, District 5! June is upon us and summer is just around the corner. As the weather continues to warm, we have much to look forward to in the coming months and beyond, especially in terms of community activities and events!
It’s hard to believe how quickly time has flown since the intense winter storms we faced earlier this year. If your home, rental, car, business, or nonprofit were damaged or affected by the severity of those storms, you may be eligible for a low-interest federal disaster loan being offered by the US Small Business Association. See below or visit SBA.gov/disaster to learn more.
At the upcoming City Council meeting, we will hear Item 23, a proposal to enter an agreement with LA County to implement a Traffic Signal Synchronization Program (TSSP) Project along Woodruff Ave from Willow St up to Rosecrans Ave in the City of Bellflower. See below for more information.
Looking for things to do this weekend? Tonight is opening night for the Long Beach Shakespeare Company’s New Works Festival! You can still buy tickets for this weekend’s shows, “Out of the Woods,” and “Medieval Sketch / Behind the Scenes,” or look ahead to next weekend’s performances. On Saturday, June 1st, you can bring clothes, toys, jewelry, or other small items to a Fixit Clinic at the Expo from 12 – 3, where a skilled fixer can help bring your item new life. Then, Saturday night, you can head over to LBX for a Movie Night on the Hangar Lawn at 8pm. Bring your friends, family, pets, and blanket, for a free showing of Disney’s Wish!
As you make plans for next week, please peruse the flyers below! There are the regularly scheduled neighborhood events like Bixby Knoll’s First Fridays, Parkview Village’s Second Saturdays, and LBX’s popup markets, as well as special occasions, from ABLE Arts Work’s Open House of their new location on Atlantic, to New Hope Grief’s Remember Me Family Day, to a Women’s Community Walk through Bixby Knolls. See below for more information on these events and even more to do!
Finally, I’d like to remind you that the next City Council meeting will be on Tuesday, June 4th at 5pm in the City Hall Chambers. A list of items of interest will can be found at the bottom of this newsletter. I encourage you to attend or watch online.
As always, I am grateful for your continued engagement with me and my office, and I look forward to seeing you out in the community.
The work continues,

"Click It or Ticket!" Campaign Runs Through This Weekend
The LBPD reminds us to always buckle up and secure children in the right car seats when on the road. This year’s Click It or Ticket campaign runs from May 20 to June 2. During this time, LBPD will have additional officers on patrol actively looking for drivers and passengers who are not wearing a seat belt.
This includes vehicles where children are not secured in child safety seats or the right safety seats for their age. California law requires a child to be secured in a safety or booster seat until they are at least 8 years old or at least 4 feet, 9 inches tall. Children under the age of 2 must ride in a rear-facing seat unless the child weighs 40 or more pounds or is 40 or more inches tall. Learn more...

Reporting a Traffic Complaint
As a reminder, you can submit traffic complaints to LBPD online! For non-emergency and/or habitual concerns, you can fill out and submit an online Traffic Complaint Form on the LBPD website.
Common issues that can be reported online include speeding vehicles at a regular location, habitual parking issues and/or violations, abandoned vehicles, sign or signal damage or obstructions.
Click here to learn more, or email PDTrafficComplaints@longbeach.gov with any traffic-related questions.
If the incident you are reporting is an emergency, please dial 911. Do not report emergency incidents online. Online reporting should only be used to report incidents that do not require immediate attention.
