Summer is here and so is National Night Out!

In collaboration with our Long Beach Police Department and our community groups, I invite you to celebrate the 40th Annual National Night Out on Tuesday, August 1, 2023. Many of our neighbors have called these past few weeks to express our joint sadness regarding the trees in our parks. The City Manager released a memo to our Office regarding our Citywide Street Tree Replacement Program and Updated Tree Maintenance Program. My office is reviewing the memo, and we are communicating with the Parks, Recreation, and Marine Department and the City Manager to ensure we expand our urban canopy. We will keep you updated as we move through these conversations during the upcoming budget season.

Seeing that National Night Out is on a City Council Day, our August 1st meeting starts at 3pm and will end by 5pm. You can access the next Council meeting's Full Agenda at the bottom of this newsletter. As always, I am grateful for your continued engagement with me and my office, and I look forward to seeing you out in the community soon. Be sure to follow my Social Media @CWMeganKerr to stay connected!

City of Long Beach Advises Residents to Take Precautions Against Summer Heat

With rising summer temperatures, some exceeding high heat index, City Health Officer Dr. Anissa Davis reminds residents to take precautions against the heat. The Heat Index is a measure of how hot it really feels when relative humidity is factored in with the actual air temperature.

All City Parks, Recreation and Marine Community Centers and Long Beach Public Library locations are available as designated cooling centers during their normal business hours. For more information, visit longbeach.gov/CoolingCenters. For more tips, visit: longbeach.gov/extremeheat and follow the Health Department on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

F/A-18 Aircraft in the sky!

Heads up! Four F/A-18 aircraft will conduct operations at LGB from Friday (7/28) through Sunday (7/30). We anticipate the aircraft will arrive LATER than usual in the evening on Friday, conduct a few training operations on Saturday., and depart Sunday morning. All times are tentative and subject to change.

Due to the unique nature of the mission, military aircraft are exempt from noise regulations, but they will be using noise abatement procedures in the Long Beach area (modified arrival and departure flight profiles and minimum use of afterburners).

Unleaded Aviation Fuel Update at Long Beach Airport

On July 14, the City Council was provided an update on the Unleaded Aviation Fuel Availability at LGB. In short, the commencement for the sale of unleaded aviation fuel at LGB is scheduled for the first week of August 2023. LGB's fuel supplier, Signature, has coordinated with Swift Fuels (Swift) of Indiana for the sale of Swift’s Unleaded 94 product at LGB. Swift currently supplies UL94 to airports in Los Angeles and San Diego counties. UL94 is capable of servicing approximately 75% of the nation’s piston powered fleet. The Airport estimates approximately 60-70% of the piston powered aircraft based at LGB may be eligible to use the UL94 product. For more information, view the memo from the City Manager here.
