2024 Budget Adopted by City Council

This past Tuesday, the City Council adopted the Proposed Fiscal Year 2024 Budget. In this $3.2 billion budget, there is a focus on the Long Beach Strategic Vision 2030, priorities on improving our urban forest and green spaces, continued enhanced spending on our youth and neighborhoods, infrastructure and traffic, and the ongoing concerns with the lack of housing and increase in those experiencing homelessness.

Long Beach Airport and Tuesday's City Council Meeting

Thank you to all our neighbors who have voiced their concerns regarding the increased general aviation operations affecting our lives in CD5. Please know that I hear your concerns and am receiving all your questions. My team and I have gathered your questions and I have placed Item 24 on next week's City Council Agenda. This item is a request that the City Manager, Airport, and other relevant departments report back to the Council with answers to questions from our community. This is the first step in understanding the interconnected dynamics involving the City, LGB, and the Community. I encourage you to submit your questions and concerns via the e-comment feature. These e-comments will go into the record as part of the item. On Tuesday, the City staff will not be answering specific questions, rather, this item is directing the city manager to work with the appropriate staff to compile a comprehensive report to be presented at a later date.

At Tuesday's meeting we will also be receiving a six-month update on the homelessness emergency proclamation and associated activities related to homelessness, provided by: Public Health, Housing, and Public Works. This will be a comprehensive presentation and six month review & report back on the work that has been done thus far during the emergency.

As always, I am grateful for your continued engagement with me and my office, and I look forward to seeing you out in the community. Be sure to follow my social media @CWMeganKerr to stay connected!

Let's get to work,

Megan Kerr, Councilwoman

Long Beach, District 5
