Recreational Vehicle Sanitation & Water Filling Site | |
|
In one of the many ongoing efforts to connect the unhoused with services, the City first announced in February the plans for a site to offer sanitation dump stations and water filling stations for people experiencing homelessness and living in recreational vehicles.
This interdepartmental effort will allow people who have received a referral from the Multi-Service Center to visit the site during their assigned reservation time slot on weekdays between 9am and 4pm. The site, located near Cherry Ave and 32nd Street, will have on-site staffing and a security guard and will not be open to the general public. Overnight parking is not permitted at the site.
Providing safe spaces and functional services for unhoused individuals not only benefits them but also benefits the wider community. Supervised and safe spaces, like the new RV Sanitation and Water Filling Site, reduce the likelihood of public health concerns related to illegal dumping. As your representative, I am committed to working with our community and interdepartmental partners to advance the work around the Homelessness Emergency Declaration while prioritizing the needs of the Fifth District.
I am proud of the work the City of Long Beach staff continue to do around Homelessness and pleased that the Fifth District can contribute to the needs of those living in RVs to access clean water and maintain a sanitary living environment. For more information about the site, visit the FAQ sheet.
Nearby at the airport, essential improvements are underway. Due to the safety setback requirements, periodic temporary closures will be necessary until July to accomplish this work. Please read the important information below regarding runway closures at the Long Beach Airport.

| Critical Runway Lighting Upgrades Key to Electrical Improvements Planned at Long Beach Airport | |
Major electrical upgrades designed to improve the safety of the primary runway at Long Beach Airport are being installed from late March through July, necessitating some temporary runway closures. During Runway 12-30 closures, operations will occur on Runway 8L-26R.
Due to the safety setback requirements of the construction work, there will be temporary runway closures between March 29 and mid-July:
- Runway 12-30 will be CLOSED NIGHTLY, Sundays through Thursdays, from March 29 to mid-July.
- Runway 12-30 will be CLOSED DAILY, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, from April 18 to May 24.
More than 500 new LED lights will be installed as part of the electrical project. In addition to the safety benefits of brighter lighting, the LED bulbs use between 75 percent and 90 percent less energy and have a longer life expectancy than incandescent or quartz lights.
More information on the project can be found on the public notice.
