In this $3.6 billion proposed budget, we see a focus on priorities on city services, economic growth, residential opportunities and environmental stewardship. See below on specifics as they relate to the Fifth Council District.

In keeping with our promise to keep the community updated on the property, here is what we know as of September 1,2024.

Earlier this summer, the West Hollywood Community Housing Corporation demolished the existing building on this site. Early demolition of the existing property was recommended to help mitigate potential problems and reduce the risk of the site becoming a neighborhood nuisance. Neighbors can expect installation of more permanent white fencing around the property and it will be closely monitored by community development and code enforcement.

West Hollywood Community Housing Corporation continues to make adjustments their design, taking into consideration the input given by the community and this office, including design elements and parking considerations. No permits have been issued except for the demolition permit.

Currently, there is no specific proposal in front of the city. Plans are expected to be submitted sometime this fall. This office will keep you updated as we know more from our city departments.

Fiscal Year '25 Budget

Last Tuesday, the Council continued the Fiscal Year ‘25 (FY25) Budget Hearing process with presentations from the departments of Economic Development and Health and Human Services. As I mentioned before, I am happy to see funding allocated to improve the 10.25 sq miles that make up the Fifth Council District. Within this year’s the Capital Improvement Plan (CIP), which outlines the goals and direction for the City's future infrastructure improvements, and identifies funding sources, much of which comes from Measure A, we see allocations for funding towards improvements at Heartwell Park, Pan Am Park, and the Expo Arts Center/African American Cultural Center.

The CIP also outlines citywide investments such as alley improvements, residential and arterial street improvements, and sidewalk and curb ramps as ADA path of travel improvements, to name a few. As part of the Mayor’s Proposed Budget, we also see funding for veteran outreach and education efforts through the Veteran Affairs Commission, funding for the Visual Improvement Grants for our small businesses along with expanding funding to our Business Improvement Districts. We also see improvements to Willow Springs Park and expanding of our urban canopy. This upcoming budget is balanced, and I believe helps us continue furthering our goals as a city.
