Weekly Updates | December 12, 2025 | | |
Happy Friday, District 5! This weekend, the season’s holidays officially begin, as Hanukkah begins on Sunday, Dec. 14th. To all who celebrate, I wish you a warm and meaningful holiday filled with light and love. You can find ways to celebrate with the Long Beach community this weekend and next week, such as the Candle Lighting celebrations at 2nd & PCH on Dec. 14th at 4pm and at City Hall on Dec. 16th at 3pm, a Latke Bar Dinner at the Alpert Jewish Community Center on Dec. 18th at 5pm, and other Hanukkah celebrations in Long Beach. See below for other festive events as the holidays continue, as well as this week’s updates from Public Works, Alert Long Beach, Long Beach City College, and more.
Earlier this week, my office was made aware that Long Beach City College will be hosting an Informational Meeting this Saturday, Dec. 13th at 10am, to discuss construction updates at Long Beach City College. We encourage any interested residents, particularly those who live near LBCC, to attend to learn more about LBCC’s ongoing and upcoming projects. See below for more details.
At next week’s Council meeting, my colleagues and I will hear Item 17 regarding the next steps for implementation of the Automated Speed Enforcement Systems Pilot program. Learn more in the info block below.
This weekend, there is no shortage of holiday activities in the Fifth District. Tonight, Dec. 12th, you can choose to attend Campfire Long Beach’s first Festive Forest, a free event complete with family-friendly activities, food trucks, photos with Santa, and more, from 4 – 8pm; or you can visit Rancho Los Cerritos for their annual Holiday Open House, to receive a tour from a costumed docent or wander the festive historic grounds on your own to immerse yourself in 100 years of holiday tradition, also open from 4 – 8pm. Tomorrow, Dec. 13th, is the second Saturday of the month, meaning you can help neighbors on the Bixby Highland Clean Streets Team at their monthly clean up meeting from either 4555 Orange Ave. or 1240 E Carson St. at 8:30am; then, you can head over to the “Holiday Fest” at Parkview Village’s Second Saturdays Block Party from 11am – 3pm. Then, you can round the weekend out in festive costume by joining the BKBIA’s annual Santa Con, a self-guided business crawl from 1 – 5pm, with freebies and great deals on snacks, drinks, and holiday shopping included with your ticket (available in both 21+ and kid-friendly options). Learn more in the flyers below about these and other activities this weekend and beyond.
Finally, I’d like to remind you that the next City Council meeting will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2025, at 5pm in the City Hall Chambers, which will be the last Council meeting of 2025. The link to the full agenda and a list of items of interest can be found at the bottom of this newsletter. I encourage you to attend or watch online.
As always, I am grateful for your continued engagement with me and my office, and I look forward to seeing you out in the community.
Working together,

Upcoming Council Item
Item 17: ASE System Pilot Next Steps
As Item 17 of the Council Meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2025, the Public Works Department will present and request approval of the next steps for the implementation of the Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) Pilot Program. My colleagues and I will consider the adoption of the final versions of the System Use Policy (SUP) and System Impact Report (SIR) that were drafted and made available for public review earlier this fall. We will also consider awarding the contract for the acquisition, installation, and maintenance of the ASE Systems. Taking Council action on these approvals concurrently helps ensure that we will be able to begin implementation and participation in the pilot program as soon as possible. To learn more, review the item and its attachments (including the final drafts of the SUP and SIR), visit the ASE Pilot Program webpage, or tune in to next week’s meeting either in person or online.

Dept. of Disaster Preparedness & Emergency Communications
Cybersecurity Concerns with 3rd Party
On Monday, Dec. 9, 2025, the City of Long Beach issued a public notice on behalf of Onsolve CodeRED, the third-party emergency notification service provider used for “Alert Long Beach,” regarding a nationwide cybersecurity incident. Note, the CodeRED incident is not related to, and did not impact, the City’s technology or infrastructure.
CodeRED was recently acquired by Crisis24, a risk management company, that transitioned customer data from Onsolve CodeRED to the Crisis24 platform – now branded as CodeRED by Crisis24 (Crisis24). The attack occurred on the old Onsolve CodeRED platform, not the current Crisis24 platform, and may have compromised user data across the nation including names, addresses, email addresses, phone numbers and/or passwords associated with CodeRED user profiles. Per Crisis24, the current platform was not breached, is secure, and data was not compromised.
According to Crisis24, personal information such as date of birth and social security numbers were not impacted as users do not provide that information to access the platform. Crisis24 cautions Long Beach residents who may have reused their Alert Long Beach password for any other personal or business accounts to change those passwords immediately.
Those with concerns or questions about this incident can contact Crisis24 directly at 866.939.0911 or crsupport@crisis24.com. You can also find more information, including a list of FAQs, at the City’s Disaster Preparedness webpage. Questions or concerns related to emergency notifications in Long Beach can be directed to the Dept. of Disaster Preparedness & Emergency Communications at longbeach-EOC@longbeach.gov.

Health & Human Services
Seeking Volunteers for 2026 Homeless Point in Time Count
The Health & Human Services Department is calling on 350 community members to volunteer for the 2026 Point in Time Count, an annual street and shelter count of people experiencing homelessness in Long Beach, taking place on Thursday, Jan. 22, 2026.
The Point in Time Count is more than a data collection effort—it is a communitywide initiative inviting residents and businesses to connect with neighbors experiencing homelessness, learn about available resources and actively support the City’s response to homelessness. Information gathered during the Count plays a critical role in understanding the scope of homelessness in Long Beach, shaping services and identifying gaps in resources.
Volunteer registration is now open and will remain available until all slots are filled. If more than 350 people register, additional participants will be placed on a waitlist.
Learn more in the recent press release or at longbeach.gov/homelesscount.

Immigration Enforcement Resources
Whistlemania! LBC
With the US Immigrations & Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity continuing to occur throughout our region, it’s increasingly important for everyone, including our immigrant communities, to know their rights and have access to resources. While immigration enforcement is a federal responsibility, we understand that the current actions are continuing to escalate tensions and can undermine trust within our neighborhoods. All residents of Southern California and Long Beach deserve to live in peace and with a sense of security, regardless of their background.
I and the City of Long Beach remain committed to upholding the dignity and rights of every person. As evidenced by our Council-supported Long Beach Values Act, we remain committed to work alongside community organizations to ensure that all who call Long Beach home feel safe, supported, and valued. For more information on the Long Beach Values act, visit: longbeach.gov/valuesact.
Local CD5 residents and business owners are forming Whistlemania! LBC inspired by the grassroots efforts in Chicago and other cities to increase awareness of continued unjust detainments, to report and warn one another of ICE activity, to ensure everyone knows their rights, and to inspire solidarity and support for immigrant communities. Learn more and find ways you can join the efforts at the Whistlemania! LBC link tree.
If you witness ICE activity that you’d wish to report, text or call the 24/7 Rapid Response Hotline at 213-444-6562.
