Happy New Year and please receive our best wishes for 2019!
The District 7 Council Office is kicking off the new year with a series of Community Conversations. The first will be next week:
- Thursday, January 10 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Thomas Jefferson HS, 723 Donaldson Ave. Doors open at 6:30.
- Saturday, January 12, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Maverick Library, 8700 Mystic Park. Doors open at 12:30.
I will provide an update on the hiring of the new City Manager and on my efforts to improve public participation in City processes and decisions.
The search for the new city manager is underway. Thirty one candidates from within San Antonio and across the country have submitted an application. Interviews will follow in the next couple of weeks. I am interested in hearing your thoughts about what you would like to see in our next City Manager.
I will also discuss my efforts to improve how the City engages with the community. Many City departments successfully integrate public feedback. Yet there are others that can be improved. I hear from many residents that they feel their participation did not make a difference in the outcome of a City decision. They felt their voice was not heard.
I believe all residents should have a voice in shaping the future of our City. And I believe all participants should know how their voice affected a final decision at City Hall. On January 17, City Council will vote on a resolution that commits the City to guiding principles that will guide the City’s public participation efforts forward. I hope to see you there to discuss these guiding principles.
for the conversation on January 10 at Jefferson High School.
for the conversation on January 12 at Maverick Library.
Additionally, I’d like to congratulate Commissioner Justin Rodriguez, who was recently appointed to serve out the rest of the late Paul Elizondo’s term on the Bexar County Commissioner’s Court. I’m looking forward to continue working with him for the betterment of our community.
