Your District 7 Newsletter
VOLUME 16 | Nov. 16, 2017
Dear Neighbors,
I know from our conversations that many of you still have questions about SAWS’s request for rate increases for 2018 and 2019. I do, too.

That’s why I’ve asked SAWS officials to hold a Town Hall meeting in District 7 – to make their case for the rate hikes and address your concerns and questions. So please join us Tuesday, November 28, at the Leon Valley Community and Conference Center from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. The address is 6427 Evers Road.

As many of you know, Mayor Nirenberg pulled the proposed rate increase from City Council’s November 9 agenda because several members believed we didn’t have enough information on which to base a decision. I was one of those Council members.

I am determined to use the additional time to get answers.

So please plan to attend this important Town Hall!

Thank you, and see you there.
Yours in public service,
Ask Ana Anything
One of the ways Councilwoman Sandoval wants to give you the answers you need about city government is through "Ask Ana Anything", a recurring part of the weekly District 7 newsletter. Have a question for Ana? Email it to [email protected] with the subject line "Ask Ana Anything".
Dear Ana,

What is the deal with the new median in front of Maverick Library on Mystic Drive?

Perplexed
Dear Perplexed,

Thank you for this question – it comes up frequently.

In October, the City’s Transportation and Capital Improvement Department built a median with ramps and new street markings between Maverick Library and Nani Falcone Park. The project cost $50,000.

This project is all about safety – safety for those going to the park, those riding their bikes, and those behind the wheel. Pedestrian medians both encourage drivers to slow down and provide a safe path for people to cross the street.

Speeding vehicles on Mystic, between Bandera Road and Guilbeau, has been a persistent problem. We expect the new median to go a long way to improving safety for everybody.

I hope that answers your question.

Sincerely,

Councilwoman Ana Sandoval

"District 7 Councilwoman Ana Sandoval said she asked the mayor to postpone the vote to give SAWS officials time to address residents’ concerns about the way the utility is using their money, and confusion over how to calculate their bills."

"Kuenstler said San Antonio Councilwoman Ana Sandoval is involved in the project, as her district contains part of Bandera Road."

Hidden Treasure:
Mayor's Housing Policy Task Force Website
City government is big and complex. It can be intimidating, but shouldn't be. To help you get the most of your government, every week we will dedicate part of the District 7 newsletter to City services you may not be aware but that you might find useful.

This week, we're highlighting the new Mayor's Housing Policy Task Force website.
Here's how the website describes the purpose of the Task Force:

The Mayor’s Housing Policy Task Force consists of five (5) advisors appointed by the Mayor to assist with the development of a comprehensive and compassionate policy framework to address the pressing affordable housing challenges that our city faces with input from community stakeholders.
