VOLUME 98 | July 19, 2019
Dear Neighbors,
This coming Friday, July 26, we’re joining with United Healthcare for a Senior Fan Giveaway at Woodlawn Lake Park. The event runs from 9 to 11 a.m. Seniors who are 62 years or older can pick up one free box fan while supplies last.

Additionally, I want to make sure you see two City surveys that are currently open.

The first asks whether restaurants should have to post their Health Inspection letter grades in public view. Currently, posting the letter grades in public view is optional, but cities across the country are increasingly updating their ordinances to require that letter grades are posted in public view.

The goal? Help restaurant-goers know whether the restaurant prepares food safely. Agree? Disagree? Let Metro Health know by taking the survey here.

The second survey asks you what you think about existing laws governing pet sales—should we tighten them? Loosen them? Are there certain situations that boost our need for the laws to begin with? Animal Care Services would like your feedback to help them shape their recommendations to the City Council. Take the survey here.
Yours in public service,
The Week in Photos
Councilwoman Sandoval led the Visit San Antonio team on a tour of locally-owned businesses in District 7. The Visit San Antonio team plans use what they learned and who they met to help tell the story of San Antonio's thriving local destinations--including Barrio Barista and Janie's Record Store.
The District 7 Team had a great time celebrating July 4th a Woodlawn Lake Park.
Thanks to Monticello Park for inviting the District 7 Team to their July 4th Children's Parade. Yes, it was as cute it as it sounds!
The Northwest Neighborhood Alliance discussed neighborhood safety with their SAPD SAFFE Officers at their most recent meeting.

Neighborhood of the Week:
Finesilver Ranch
Established in 1995, Finesilver Ranch (FSR) is a small neighborhood comprised of approximately 400 homes located on Braun road between 1604 and Bandera road. We are a gated community complete with mature oak and cedar trees throughout and feature a community swimming pool, clubhouse, walking trail, playground, and basketball court.

The land that Finesilver Ranch is built on was used by the Finesilver Family for ranching. Old topographic maps show a large stock pond where we now have the greenbelt and playing field. Early residents of Finesilver Ranch often found relics from this heritage including rusted barbed wire, old wood and rock fences and walls, cattle skulls and horns and old ranch tools.

D7 in the News
A city commission unanimously approved plans to demolish the Berta Almaguer Dance Studio near Woodlawn Lake, despite efforts by preservationists to save the 1955 structure, a place of memories for dancers of all ages and some of San Antonio’s finest performers.

San Antonio could see 97 days a year with a heat index over 100 degrees and 59 days above 105 degrees by mid-century if no global action is taken to combat climate change, according to a report released Tuesday by the Union of Concerned Scientists.

Survey: Restaurant Letter Grades
Would you like to see Metro Health Inspection Grades posted in public view at restaurants?

Right now, placing Metro Health's letter grades public view is voluntary. Metro Health would like your input on the mandatory posting of letter grades for all restaurants in the City of San Antonio.

Survey: The Future of Pet Sales
Right now, it’s against the law to breed or sell dogs or cats, puppies or kittens without a permit from ACS. Should those ordinances change?

Let us know what you think by taking this brief survey and your feedback will shape future recommendations for City Council.
