VOLUME 88 | April 18, 2019
I don’t know about you, but my dogs definitely did not enjoy last night’s weather. Chances are that your roof didn’t enjoy it much either. Before you go out and hire someone to repair it, there are a couple of things to be aware of to avoid possible scams:
- All roofers must have a license. If a roofer tries to tell you otherwise, don’t hire them. If you want to double check that the roofer has a license, you can ask for proof of a license or check with the City’s Contractor Database.
- Make sure your roofer has insurance coverage. You can ask for a copy of their insurance coverage to be sure.
- Roof repairs require a City permit. Make sure the roofer you hire gets one before beginning the work! When a registered roofer requests a permit, it is usually issued within 24 hours.
I hope everyone enjoys the Easter weekend and the company of their loved ones.

The Meadows at Morningside kicked off Fiesta with a Fiesta Fashion Show. Councilwoman Sandoval joined them to judge the outfits and spend time with our seniors.
We heard from residents about how dangerous the curve on Broadview Drive in Woodlawn Hills can be for drivers—especially those who aren’t used to driving in the area. That’s why we’re welcoming to the neighborhood new directional arrow signs (chevrons) along the curve.
These signs will make it easier for drivers to see the curve with plenty of time to slow down and keep neighbors safe.
One of the ways Councilwoman Sandoval wants to give you the answers you need about city government is through "Ask Ana Anything", a recurring part of the weekly District 7 newsletter. Have a question for Ana? Email it to
[email protected] with the subject "Ask Ana Anything".
Hi Ana,
I would like to visit public art pieces or installations but I have no idea where they're located. Can you help? Is there is a website to help me find any public art in the city?
Thank you,
Artistic on Ashby
Hi Artistic,
Public Art San Antonio (PASA) has a
map and
full list of all of the City’s public art installations available on their website. It’s an excellent resource, especially if you have some time to get to know San Antonio a little better.
Of course, I’m partial to the art in our district, but if I had to choose a favorite, I’d have to say the facade at the Maverick Library.
Thanks for the question.

Yours in public service,
Ana

Last year, Councilwoman Sandoval brought together the Texas Department of Transportation, the City, and our neighbors to develop a comprehensive solution to congestion on Bandera Rd and a revitalization of the corridor that connects one end of the District to the other. Because this issue is important to you, the City of San Antonio is working jointly with TxDOT to engage the public, identify congestion relief solutions, and bring more desirable businesses to Bandera Rd.
Join the City of San Antonio’s Planning Department, staff from the Districts 6, 7 and 8 Council Offices and Councilwoman Sandoval to kick off the Bandera Rd Corridor Plan on April 29 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at City Church on 9431 Bandera Rd.

Easter animal sales illegal in San Antonio
As Easter weekend nears, Animal Care Services reminds residents the sale of baby animals as holiday novelties is illegal in San Antonio. According to the City’s animal laws, it is illegal for any person to sell or offer for sale, barter, lease, rent or give away baby chicks or ducklings or rabbits less than 8 weeks old as pets or novelties. The dyeing or staining of baby chicks, ducklings or rabbits is also against City ordinance as is even possessing animals that have been colored in this way. As a reminder, City law bans the sale of animals any time of the year on any roadside, public right of way, commercial parking lot or at any flea market or festival. The only exception to the “Easter animal” law applies to properly licensed hatcheries or other businesses raising the animals for commercial purposes. Violators face stiff fines and mandatory court appearances. For information on this and other city animal laws, residents are encouraged to visit www.saacs.net.
