Now Offering Online Scholarship Options for This Upcoming (European) Winter Semester
In light of the widespread effects of COVID-19, including global travel restrictions that may progress into early 2021, the DAAD has begun to adapt its offerings to accommodate a combination of online (distance education) and face-to-face learning/research!
These new adjustments include:
aiding online learning/digital research during the beginning of the scholarship, until the participant is able to travel to Germany and complete the remainder of their endeavours, allowing the recipient to delay the start of their scholarship by up to six months.
Such changes apply to both German students traveling abroad, as well as foreign students planning to undertake research or study in Germany. The DAAD will continue to closely monitor the development of the pandemic and will provide immediate updates on any further changes.
Do you have any questions about these adjustments, or your own circumstances?
Please don't hesitate to contact the DAAD IC Sydney or visit our website

The Artists-in-Berlin Programme - The Berliner Künstlerprogramm
The Artists-in-Berlin Programme – the Berliner Künstlerprogramm – is one of the most significant international programmes to date. It offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for developing artists from around the globe to spend one year in Berlin. The programme helps cultivate the fields of visual arts, music, film and literature, with an emphasis on creative freedom and the promotion of diverse takes on the arts.
The Berliner Künstlerprogramm was started by the Ford Foundation in 1963 (over a year after the construction of the Berlin Wall) as a three-year programme with the goal to improve the cultural and educational scene in West Berlin. In 1965, the DAAD took charge of it and gave it its current name. It has received a considerable amount of support to grow into what it is today.
Throughout its lifespan, the Berliner Künstlerprogramm has had over a thousand guests in total including some well-known names.
The field of visual arts has been especially prolific, with such high demand and prestige that the programme has turned to selectively no longer accepts applications from visual arts students, instead searching for visual arts students or selecting them from commendations – however, it is still possible to apply for literature, music and film.
The programme gives artists from everywhere the chance to spend one year in Berlin and work to enhance the cultural landscape with their own, truthful art. It provides great assistance in displaying and producing the work, and also holds many events such as readings, performances and screenings, making it a truly extensive opportunity to engage to the fullest potential.
The call for application for 2022 will start in September 2020. For further information about the program please visit the website here.
