End of Year Message and 2022 Plans

The Executive Committee is regularly meeting now and planning the activities for the next year. It is so wonderful to work with such a passionate and diverse team and I so enjoy every Committee Meeting we hold. This team wants to give back and make a difference. Our focus for next year will be the launch of the new events series in 2022. We will also launch our Australian DAAD Alumni website and a LinkedIn group.

For new DAAD Research Ambassadors to join the program 2022/23

We would like to encourage researchers to apply from specific areas/universities such as from Western Australia, South Australia, Tasmania, Northern Territory or regional universities in particular. If you are interested or know of any suitable candidate, please follow the link to the information about the Research Ambassador Program that includes what is expected in these roles together with the application procedure.

Consul General visits DAAD IC Sydney

Axel Zeidler, the new Consul General at the German Consulate General in Sydney, visited recently the office of the DAAD Information Centre. He arrived in Australia in August this year and was happy to meet the team of the DAAD just shortly after the lockdown in NSW was lifted.

We would like to give him a warm welcome and are looking forward to cooperate with the consulate for next year's events.

Event HIGHLIGHT

'It can't get more real!'

Podcast series "REAL IS NOT REAL ENOUGH" had its successful launch.

An outstanding presentation of the audio and illustration work about the German philosopher and writer Günther Anders was given at the Goethe-Institut Sydney last week.

The introduction to and presentation of Anders' diary “Washing the Corpses of History” was followed by a podium discussion with Benjamin Nickl, Chris Müller, Helen Wolfenden and Eric Lobbecke and provided insights into the exciting production process.

New German Government Pledges

More Funding

for Higher Education and Research

As Germany’s new coalition government takes shape, there are signs that higher education could figure further up the political agenda than it did under the previous administration. The coalition has promised to raise university funding by 3% a year, and the education and research budget could be increased by a quarter.

The Social Democrat-Green-Free Democrat coalition’s agreement also promises to increase government spending on research and development to 3.5% of gross domestic product by 2025.

Leo Baeck Fellowship 2022/23

We are happy to announce the international Leo Baeck Fellowship Programme 2022/2023 (German academic year October 2022 - September 2023). We invite applications from PhD students who carry out research related to the history and culture of the German-speaking Jewry. The programme is jointly organised by the Leo Baeck Institute London and the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes. Our programme is open to PhD candidates worldwide.
