DAAD Annual Report 2022

- Change by Exchange -

The Annual Report provides information about the most important projects, current statistics and an overview of the many different tasks of the Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD).


The DAAD has granted academic and research funding to more than 140.000 Germans and foreigners in 2022, including European Union (EU) programmes, making it the world’s largest funding organisation of its kind. The DAAD is a driving force behind the internationalisation efforts of German universities. It supports developing countries by helping them build and improve their higher education systems, and promotes the study of the German language and German Studies abroad. Our Artists-in-Berlin Program is one of the most prestigious scholarship programmes for artists across the globe.

DAAD President confirmed in Office

Professor Joybrato Mukherjee was recently re-elected as DAAD President in Bonn.The General Assembly of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) also confirmed Vice President Muriel Helbig in office. In addition, a new Executive Committee and a part of the Board of Trustees were elected for the world’s biggest academic exchange organisation.

The call for applications is now open for Falling Walls Lab Sydney 2023.

Students, researchers, and early-career professionals who are residents of NSW or the ACT are invited to apply with their ground-breaking research, business models, and initiatives from all disciplines.


The aim of the Falling Walls Lab is to provide a diverse and interdisciplinary pool of students, researchers, and early-career professionals with a world-class platform that helps them drive their innovations, develops their communication skills, and connects them with each other, creating a global network and impactful and sustainable community of innovators and changemakers.



The Falling Walls Lab Sydney is hosted by the Federal Foreign Office of Germany, the DAAD Australia and EURAXESS Australia & New Zealand, and supported by the Australian Academy of Science.

The German Women's National Football Team has historically been one of the most successful teams in women's football. They have won multiple major tournaments, including the FIFA Women's World Cup and the UEFA Women's European Championship. The team has a strong mix of experience and youth, and features a number of world-class players.

Call for Applications

University Wintercourse in Germany and Online

Hochschulwinterkurs (reinstated)


In co-operation with the DAAD, several universities in Germany offer a German language course or “Deutschlandkundlichen Winterkurs” lasting six weeks during the northern hemisphere’s winter. The program is available for bachelor, master and PhD students. It is designed for students with a sound knowledge of German (B1 level) and a background in German Studies who are interested in improving their language skills and understanding of current affairs.

We look forward to meeting you at our next DAAD Alumni event on Friday, 21 July 2023 at the Goethe-Institut Sydney.

We have organised an exciting event where we will present our (first ever) DAAD Alumni Australia Logo and will discuss the topic Technology disruption and the importance of cross-functional teams and values as a panel presentation. Different perspectives on this topic will be presented.


We are pleased to introduce the following topics and speakers to you:

FUBiS is an intensive academic program through which students can earn credits. FUBiS sessions run for 3 to 6 weeks in summer and winter. Students can choose between subject courses (mostly taught in English) and German language courses and participate in a rich cultural program.
