German Language, Literature and Culture: Institutional Partnerships Worldwide | |
The first German Studies Institute Partnership (GIP)
Between a German and an Australian university has finally been in place since the beginning of this year. It involves German Studies at the University of Adelaide on the one hand and German Studies at the University of Hamburg on the other. After years of preparation and delayed by the coronavirus pandemic, the kick-off for joint project work and mutual exchange in research and teaching was given in January 2024. (...) As one of the aims of this cooperation agreement, which is entirely geared towards internationalisation, is to promote the training of a new generation of young researchers and teachers, the first year should be characterised by visits in both directions and, overall, enable a better understanding of the disciplinary conditions at the other location. In the coming years, this will also lead to an exchange of ideas for the further development of existing curricula, concrete innovation possibilities will be explored and modular teaching materials will be designed independently.
In view of the challenges of our present-day history, the GIP collaboration is focused on the topic of ‘Crisis communication and the transmission of crisis experiences’. (...).

Professor Ingrid Piller receives

Congratulations, Prof Ingrid Piller!
Ingrid Piller, Distinguished Professor of Applied Linguistics at Macquarie University in Sydney, is one of five international researchers this year who has been selected to receive Germany’s most valuable research award, the Humboldt Professorship in 2025.
Professor Piller has had a lasting influence on applied linguistics. Her research into linguistic diversity and intercultural communication radiates well beyond her specialist field and has an impact on disciplines such as sociology, history and educational science.
An Alexander von Humboldt Professorship which comes with up to €5 million in funding offers not only optimal financial conditions but also maximum flexibility for conducting leading-edge research in Germany. The recently selected award winners are to use Germany’s most valuable international research award to work for an extended period at a German research institute.
Ingrid Piller was nominated for this award by the Universität Hamburg and will commence in her role as Humboldt Professor in 2025.
