DACC Students and Families,

Last week, our teachers held their annual Advisory Committee Meetings and while holding a meeting may not sound exciting, these meetings have a powerful impact on our district. Business leaders from all over Central Ohio met virtually and in person to talk about how, together, we can provide the best possible experience to our DACC students. These professionals are invested in what a career tech education can provide to students, as well as how our students will have an impact on the future of their industries.

We value these business partnerships and appreciate our staff for the time they invest outside of the classroom to foster and maintain these professional relationships.

Upcoming Sophomore Visit Days

Save the Date.jpg

Important Information for Current DACC Students

The Delaware Area Career Center is excited to return to hosting in-person visits with area 10th-grade students, known as “Sophomore Visit Days.”. This year, prospective students will be visiting the DACC campus on the following days:

  • Friday, November 18
  • Monday, November 21
  • Tuesday, November 22

Because all DACC staff will be involved in organizing, presenting, and creating engaging learning experiences for the visiting 10th graders, these days will not be “typical” school days for current students.

Current DACC students will be doing one of the following activities on each of these days:

  • Attend school as a Student Assistant (only if requested by their instructor)
  • Job shadow a professional in their field of study (required at least one of the days)
  • Full and Half-Day Students: Complete a remote learning assignment for lab
  • Students may also elect to conduct college visits during this time

NOTE: Full-Day students will also be given a remote learning assignment to be completed for each academic class for each of the 3 Sophomore Visit Days.

Not turning in required assignments or proof of job shadowing and/or college visit will result in attendance for the day(s) of school missed being counted as an unexcused absence(s).

Please look for your student to bring home Job Shadow Experience documents in the coming days.

We are proud of our programs and believe that we offer unique and valuable educational options for area students. We appreciate your support of this important endeavor.

Suicide and Grief  Resources for Parents

Suicide Resources for Parents:

Talking about suicide is the best way to prevent it!

Talking about suicide has proven to prevent suicide; it does NOT plant suicidal thoughts nor cause suicides.

Ask your teenager/child if they have or are having suicidal thoughts. Don't be afraid to say the word "suicide." Getting the word out in the open may help your teenager understand that someone has heard their cries for help.

- Ask your teen/child to talk about their feelings. Listen carefully. Do not dismiss their problems or get angry at them based on what they tell you.

If you need help to know if your teenager or an adult is in a suicide crisis or at a higher risk, call the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Family Crisis Line at 614-722-1800 to talk with a professional counselor. They can provide a suicide assessment of your teen/child while on the phone with you or your child.

Grief Resources for Parents:

OhioHealth at Home, Hospice Bereavement is offering school-based grief support services for DACC students who have experienced the death of a friend or family member.

Sessions include supportive discussions and expressive/commemorative projects that help teens identify and express their feelings, honor and remember their loved ones, and develop healthy strategies to navigate their grief. The service is free. A Hospice bereavement counselor will meet with students in a small group for 30 minutes at DACC for 6 to 8 weeks.

An informational meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, during school hours. Interested students should email our behavioral health specialists Tamara Firzharris, FirzharrisT@DelawareAreaCC.org

Student Support

Resume.jpg

Juniors - during the months of October - December, students will be working on creating the first draft of their resumes. These documents will continue to be worked on over the next 2 years. Once complete, students will have a professional resume they can use when searching for jobs.

Seniors - this year all seniors will have the option to create a LinkedIn account to help connect with other professionals, search for jobs, and share business and industry resources and practices. By the end of the first semester, LinkedIn workshop sessions will be complete, and students can start using this valuable resource for their next steps after graduation in the spring.

Feel free to reach out to Classroom Projects Coordinator Kelly Kohl if you have any questions or feedback about the Junior Resume or Senior LinkedIn sessions  KohlK@DelawareAreaCC.org
