Dear Student & Parent/Guardians,

It looks like fall has finally arrived! With warm days coming few and far between, we'd like to remind our students of a few points:
  1. Dress for the weather. Even if you plan on spending most of your day at school inside, remember that the occasional fire drill might require you to stand outside in the cold.
  2. Drive safely. Whether it's fog, wet leaves, or snow, the roads can be slippery and dangerous as the weather changes.
  3. For our bus riders, remember to stand back from the road when waiting for the bus. Now that it's dark in the morning, it can be difficult for drivers to see you.
  4. It never hurts to revisit our school delays & closings procedures.
Please take a moment to read the below information for upcoming events and recent news. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to call us at 740-548-0708.

Olentangy Transportation to DACC 10/21/19
Olentangy Local Schools are not in session October 21, 2019. Olentangy will offer students who attend the Delaware Area Career Center transportation this day. Please call into the Olentangy Transportation Center to schedule your student for transportation should they need it no later than Monday October 14, 2019 to make your request. We will need to know what portion of the day your child attends the career center and if they need transportation both ways. You may call 740-657-4387 during normal business hours of 5:30am-5pm or after hours and leave detailed information.
Parent Teacher Conferences
Parent teacher conferences will be held on November 14th. Telephone conferences will be held 4:30-6pm and in-person conferences will be held 6-8pm. We encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity to meet with instructors to discuss your child's progress in their career technical education program and academic classes if your child attends full day.
School Delays and Closings
School delays and closings can sometimes be confusing and we want to make sure you know exactly what to do. We have posted an FAQ page on our web site where we answer these questions about what to expect and what's expected of our students.

Please take a few moments to read through the questions to find a scenario that might apply to you or your child. Many parents find it helpful to bookmark this page for future reference.

Also included is a message from our Superintendent, Mary Beth Freeman, about how our delay and closing decisions are made.

Please remember that you will not be contacted by our associate districts for DACC delays and closings. You will only receive information directly from DACC through the Honeywell Instant Alert System, on social media, and through the news.

Additional questions or special circumstances can be directed to PJ Taylor at (740) 203-2268.
Honeywell Instant Alert System
Knowing how important it is for you to be kept informed, DACC uses the Honeywell Instant Alert System to contact families quickly and effectively. This system will be used when there is a need for quick communication to be delivered to parents or guardians by telephone, cell phone, text message or e-mail, in any combination. Examples of this may be a school closing or delay, student absences, or general activities at the DACC.

This internet-based system will help each family to maintain up-to-date contact information through a secure, password protected online site. At the beginning of the school year, DACC loads the system with your home phone number, as given to the DACC on the enrollment application form. This is the phone number that will be called by default by the Instant Alert System. If you would like to change this number or add additional numbers go to Honeywell's web site and set up the personal information, including phone numbers and emails, you want the Instant Alert System to use. You will need to complete this each year, even if your student is a returnee.

Your online personal profile will enable you to:
  • Input your personal contact information if you want more than one device such as cell phones, work phones, email and/or text messaging to be used to contact you;
  • Check the system and send yourself a test text message to make sure your text messaging contact information is entered correctly;
  • Add contact information of other caretakers of your children, such as a grandparent or a neighbor, that you would want to be notified;
  • Update changes anytime to your personal contact information.
You can access procedure sheets for updating your profile here. If you need assistance with your profile, please send an email to  InstantAlertHelp@Honeywell.com.
Sophomore Visit Days What You Need to Know
Each year the Delaware Area Career Center has the exciting opportunity to host visits from area 10th grade students. This year, visits are scheduled for:
  • Friday, November 22nd
  • Monday, November 25th
  • Tuesday, November 26th
All staff will be involved in the organizing, presenting, and making of engaging learning experiences for the visiting students. Your child will be doing one of three activities on these days:
  • Attend school as a helper (only if asked by their instructor)
  • Job shadow a professional in their chosen field of study
  • Complete an alternative learning assignment
For more information about Sophomore Visit Day or to download a Job Shadow Experience Form, please visit our web site.
Cold & Flu Information
Cold and flu season will be here before you know it. The basics will help keep you healthy. Wash your hands frequently. Cover your nose and mouth when coughing and or sneezing. Getting a good night sleep and eating healthy foods will provide your body with the stamina it needs to get through the day and fight off viruses.

Discuss with your physician whether it is appropriate to get a flu shot. As always seek out your physician if you are not feeling well and symptoms persist.

A healthy school environment requires the cooperation and effort of us all working together. During this time of year we tend to see a higher incidence of strep throat, respiratory and gastrointestinal illnesses. The Healthcare Professional Nurse at DACC would like to remind everyone that they can help to protect themselves and their families from many of these airborne illnesses.

A sick child cannot learn effectively and is unable to participate in classes in a meaningful way. Keeping a sick child home prevents the spread of illness in the school community and allows the child opportunity to rest and recover. If antibiotic treatment is needed, your child should remain home for the first full 24 hours of medication (e.g., if your child has three doses per day ordered, then three doses must be given before the child returns to school). Please keep the clinic updated on your contact numbers and any health concerns you may have regarding your child. We are here to assist in any way we can, and thank you for your support.

Sincerely,
Cynda Brause, RN

Post-Hospitalization Form
Students are required to have a post hospitalization/outpatient care form completed and cleared by Cynda Bruase, RN, DACC Health Care Professional, prior to returning to class for any surgery, hospitalization, or outpatient procedure that requires restriction of activity. Please download the form that needs completed prior to return. Notify Mrs. Brause as soon as posible if your student was in a accident, is having surgery, is on crutches, etc. so that she can evaluate the student to be sure they are cleared by physician to come back to class and that DACC meets the safety needs of that student. The form needs to be completed by a physician prior to coming to class. Students will not be able to participate in lab until cleared.

Outstanding Business & Education Partner Award
Every DACC instructor meets with a group of advisors from their industry of study to talk about trends in the industry and opportunities for partnerships and growth. On Thursday, October 10th, DACC hosted hundreds of our business partners for an annual meeting and dinner where we can thank them for the time and effort they put into our district.

We also take this opportunity to recognize
outstanding partners who go above
and beyond. This year, we recognized Riverview Dental and AVI Food Systems. Both companies have brought our students into their places of business for career exploration, job shadowing, internships, and employment. Read more about these outstanding partnerships on our web site.
