THE LIFE OF JOSEPH – LESSON 8
ELEVATION

Two years now have passed since Joseph had interpreted the dreams of the butler and the baker. He was now thirty years old and in his thirteenth year of slavery.

Pharaoh had a very disturbing dream that was immediately followed by a second troubling dream. Genesis chapter 41 tells of it. In the king’s first dream, seven fat healthy cows came up out of the Nile River which was the “life source” of Egypt. They were feeding in a meadow. Then seven lean starving cows came out of the river and ate the seven good cows. This awoke Pharaoh.

Upon returning to sleep, he dreamed of a stalk of corn that had seven ears of very good corn. Then a harsh blasting east wind showed another corn stalk that had seven poor thin ears. The seven thin ears ate the seven good ears of corn.

When morning came (vs. 8), the king called for all the wise men (Chaldeans) and magicians, but nobody could tell him the meaning of these powerfully troubling dreams. It was at this point the butler remembered Joseph and told the king about this young Hebrew. Pharaoh sent for him. They shaved him, cleaned him up, and put fresh clothes on him so as to be presentable before the king.

Pharaoh told Joseph his two dreams and sought an interpretation. Joseph took no credit as he said in verse 16, “It is not in me. God shall give Pharaoh an answer of peace.” Joseph told him the seven fat cows and the seven good ears of corn represented seven years of “great plenty” in the food harvests throughout all Egypt. The seven lean cows and seven blasted ears of corn represented seven years of extreme famine. The fact that the dreams came back-to-back meant it would happen very soon.

Joseph advised Pharaoh in verse 33 to choose, “a man discreet and wise, and set him over the land of Egypt” to deal with it. He advised to take a fifth of each years’ harvest and set it aside in preparation for the years of famine. Seeing as how God had given Joseph not only the interpretation of the dreams but also a plan, Pharaoh said in verse 38, “Can we find such a (man) as this is, a man in whom the Spirit of God is?”

Pharaoh then set Joseph up as the ruler over the entire land of Egypt. Nobody would be higher except the king himself. No one could do anything except it met with Joseph’s approval. He was given a gold chain around his neck (reserved for royalty), expensive garments, and given the king’s signet ring, which signs and seals all orders. He would ride in the second chariot, the one right behind Pharaoh’s, and everyone would be required to bow to him.

God’s plan is now just starting to be revealed, with more yet to be shown. Joseph had been faithful through the hard times. God was now elevating him.

Often in life our own “elevation” comes after our trials, afflictions, and very hard times. It comes because we remain faithful in trusting God. Unfortunately, some may fail the tests, so they never get that victory.

God rewards faithfulness. He rewards obedience. No matter what happens to you, never give up.

THE FAITHFULNESS OF GOD

Have you ever had a close friend or family member betray you? Have you ever had someone speak words about you that were not true? These things can cause someone to become very hurt and bitter. It can open the door for offense that can only be shut through repentance.

Family members have been at odds since the beginning. Take Cain and Abel. One brother killed the other brother. Jacob and Esau had a falling out, and even though there was an apparent reconciliation years later the descendants of Esau would not let the children of Jacob come on their land.

I have always taught my children and those in our church that friends, family, pastors, neighbors and more will betray you, but God will never betray us. He is our friend. In Proverbs 18:24 it says, “A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than any brother.” That friend is Jesus Christ. How close does he get? He lives inside of you, and nothing can get closer than that.

Many biblical prophets went through terrible persecution, and death, but they all knew the one that would see them through which was God, himself.

Lonely? Jesus is a friend. Sick? Jesus is our healer. Feel betrayed? Jesus was betrayed and understands. He will be faithful when no one else is. You can count on it! Don’t get bitter over betrayals and false accusations. Give them to God and let Him take care of it. He is that friend that sticks closer to you than anyone.

PROPHETIC EXHORTATION

Just know that your trials and your struggles have an expiration date. So Rejoice...For these trials you’ve been experiencing shall soon pass; And better days are just ahead. "God is faithful and He will not suffer you to be tempted above that you are able. But will with the temptation also make a way of escape, so that you may be able to endure it". (I Cor. 10:13b)
PROPHETESS MENA LEE GREBIN

For Thus Saith the High and lofty One that inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy; "I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones". -Isaiah 57:15
The word 'inhabits" in Hebrew is 'shakan', which means to lodge, stay or dwell; to camp out in a tent. YHVH-God sets up His tent in eternity; for He owns eternity. When we set up a tent here on earth, we do it all at once; in that moment of time and space. But God's tent spans across eternity. In Him, all eternity, past, present and future, are as one. All of our time in this in between thing called life, is covered by the presence of Almighty God.

The Lord continues in this scripture by saying that He dwells in the high and holy place; with those who have a contrite (which means repentant or chastened) and humble spirit. So the One who inhabits eternity is saying that those who are humble and repentant will also dwell with Him, and He with them...in eternity.
Psalm 91:1 tells us that "he who dwells in the secret place of the Most High, shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty". Both Isaiah 57:15 and Psalm 91:1 are interconnected. In order to dwell with and in the presence of the Almighty, you must come up to the high and holy place. And His place, His tent, covers all things; but you must come up. You cannot dwell in the low and dark places where the dirt and creatures lie; you must come up! You must come up to where the eagles soar and nest. And how do you get there? With a repentant heart and a humbled spirit. There, you will find Him; there is where you will find rest...His Shalom, and He said, there, is where He will revive you.

Have you allowed the sins of your past to hold you captive? Have you allowed your circumstances to define your present and your future? Go to the high and holy place; and instead of allowing life, people and the enemy to define you, let God Almighty define you; let Him set you free, for He came to set the captive free. YHVH-God is greater than your past, present and future because He is a part of your past, present and future. So do not fear what your physical eyes see, or cannot see; trust the one who gave you sight in the first place, and know that He is already there. He has already set up a tent over your eternity...so abide in Him.
