Today we remember

Louise Allen Briscoe,

our Junior Warden, whose husband, Phill, died on Sunday after a long battle with cancer which they thought they were winning. Texts, emails and cards are appreciated.  Phone calls will come in the future.

Almighty God, we pray to you for those we love, but see no longer especially your beloved son Phillip: Grant him your peace; let light perpetual shine upon him; and, in your loving wisdom and almighty power, work in him the good purpose of your perfect will; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Most merciful God, whose wisdom is beyond our understanding, deal graciously with Louise and her family in their grief. Surround them with your love, that they may not be overwhelmed by their loss, but have confidence in your goodness, and strength to meet the days to come; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Phill found a spiritual home within Buddhism for which there are no "prayers" for the departed since Buddhism believes one is reincarnated until one  is released from worldly suffering and rebirth in the state of Nirvana.  With that in mind, the following is offered from the Buddhist Tradition.  It sounds rather Christian on several levels.

May Philip be be free from animosity, free from oppression, and free from trouble. May he guide himself to bliss.

May all creatures, all breathing things, all beings — each & every one — meet with good fortune. May none of them come to any evil.

Happy, at rest, may all beings be happy at heart. Whatever beings there may be, weak or strong, without exception, long, large, middling, short, subtle, blatant, seen & unseen, near & far, born & seeking birth: May all beings be happy at heart.
