Job Readiness in Manufacturing Training Class
It is exciting to announce the first Lake Area United Way Job Readiness in Manufacturing Training class. It officially started August 11, 2020 at Ivy Tech’s East Chicago Campus. There are currently 7 ALICE Level Up Participants. This class runs for 18 weeks and the participants will receive 5 certifications. Participants will start a study group once a week and submit a video diary bi- weekly. There will be an in-person classroom training for the first 3 weeks. The classroom size is limited due to the social distancing guidelines.

The next 15 weeks will be virtual online classes for the students. In order to remove any barriers that the students are encountering, Lake Area United Way will be providing wrap around services. DeeDee White (Workforce Consultant), Danielle Harris (Workforce Alignment Program Manager), Gina Willis (Director of Admissions), and John Segovia (Instructor) have all assisted in getting the participants comfortable in the classroom setting. They have supported the students through first day jitters as well as the technical support. We are proud of this first pilot and looking forward to sharing many success stories in the near future.

Monthly Meeting
This month's meeting will take place on Saturday, August 22nd from 11:30am-1pm, and Tuesday, August 25th, from 5:30pm-7pm. This month's speaker will be St. Catherine’s Hospital Human Resources Department to discuss job opportunities, skills, and expectations.

There are a number of ways you can access the online monthly meeting. To access it on your smartphone, go to either the Apple App Store or the Android Google Play store and download the free Zoom Cloud Meetings app. If you are using a computer, simply click on the link to the meeting and you'll be instructed how to download the meeting software. If you do not have a smartphone or a computer or are uncomfortable with video conferencing you can also simply dial into the meeting using one of the numbers below. Please note that these meetings are now password protected for everyone's privacy.

To RSVP for one of the meetings, please respond to the text you received with either Tuesday or Saturday. Just a reminder, you must attend one of the two meetings to stay active in the program.
