FROM THE DAV DEPARTMENT ADJUTANT LARRY HILL
Back from DAV National Convention onto Fall Conference
We have just returned from the DAV National Convention. Happy to announce that Andy Marshall has been elected as our National Commander. He is from Florida and is a combat wounded Vietnam veteran. He is a former National Service Officer and is currently the Adjutant for the Florida Department. Congratulations Andy -- we look forward to working with you this next year.
The Convention was truly a success. Great location and property in Tampa, FL. It began with a day of Inspiration on the 29th of July, followed by District Meetings and Seminars on 30 July, with opening session the 31st of July and then Business Sessions along with more excellent Seminars along with reporting from the National staff and Foundation Chairpersons. It ended with the election and installation of the new Officers, along with the banquet. We had 25 members of the DAV/DAVA Department of Wisconsin participating. Happy to announce that our department once again won the Division III LVAP award. Thank you, John Willman for your efforts on this program.
The next Department event for us is the Fall Conference in October at Stevens Point Holiday Inn and Convention Center. Committee Meetings will be held the afternoon of 14 October and the Fall Conference training will be 15th and completed by noon the 16th. Reservation at Holiday Inn must be made by September 12th for the DAV room block. The cost of room is $109.99 which includes breakfast. The phone number for Holiday Inn is 715-344-0200.
The agenda for the conference is still being worked on and will be published once completed. Remember the Conference is devoted to training, and this is a great opportunity for Chapter Officers and members to learn more about the DAV and our responsibilities. Come and bring a new member, this is a way to get new members off to a great start.
Our DAV 501c(3) Foundation along with the Simmy Foundation have joined forces and have worked to open the Golf Course on the Tomah VA grounds. The opening was 14 August and several Very Important Persons (VIPs) along with Department members were present for the ribbon cutting and first Tee shot. After the ribbon cutting nine holes of golf was played which included Veterans and the VIPs.
Thank you, State Senior Vice Commander Rob Hilliard, for your efforts in coordination and labor to ensure the opening was a success. We will continue to work with the Simmy Foundation to maintain and operate the Golf Course.
Remember Comrades, any day you help a veteran is a good day!!
