COMMANDER'S CORNER

Great things happening in the DAV world!

Greetings All,

September has been a busy month. We have had some great things happening in the DAV world. This past weekend on the 18th, Past Department Commander Rodney Helgeson spoke at the Oshkosh POW/MIA ceremony. We are honored to have someone like PDC Helgeson speak at such a momentous occasion.

On the 26th of September, a few of the Department Officers are going to be representing the great state of Wisconsin at the National DAV Building Dedication and on the 27th they will be attending the DAV Centennial. I am also so proud of those who purchased a brick at National. Those will forever be in history.

Now in a few weeks we will be attending Fall Conference in Stevens Point. Make sure you have registered, as the deadline of Oct 1st is coming up quick. Also, make sure to reserve your rooms. We are planning to conduct a lot of training and to catch everyone up on what we have learned at Commanders and Adjutants training and National Convention.

Senior Vice Commander Rob Hilliard and I have been visiting chapters that have requested our help. We are happy to help any chapter as all Department Officers are. But the best way to help your chapter, if able, is to attend Fall Conference and State Convention. These events are held to be a resource for everyone to learn and let your voices be heard.

I know a lot are facing difficult emotions being the 20-year anniversary of 9-11, and the current events happening in Afghanistan. Just know no one is alone. Reach out and do buddy checks. We are a family that stands together.

I hope to see all of you at Fall Conference!

Do not miss our educational
Fall Conference

Comrade’s it is Fall and an important event occurs, our Fall Conference October 14-16 in Stevens Point. Make sure your reservations have been made. Come and bring another or a new member. Do not miss this educational meeting.
The next important item is the Annual Financial Report (AFR). They are due 30 September. Get them in on time this year. Last year was a real struggle getting them, we do not need a repeat.
After the AFRs, IRS 990s need to be submitted by November 15th. If you need help with either, contact the headquarters or our Deputy Treasurer Stan Kogutkiewicz.
We are seeing more request for Forget-Me-Not fundraisers, and it is a wonderful time of year for them with all the Fall festivities and other events. As you obtain funds remember our VAVS programs at the VA Medical Centers, State Veterans Homes, and our Transportation program.
Have a great month and we will see you at the Conference.
Any day you help a Veteran is a good day!
