DEPARTMENT COMMANDER

GREG PALO

We are moving swiftly to our Department Convention June 12-14, 2025. Spring is around the corner and our pace is set. Recapping from last month and staying in the loop, I am adding more detail as it has become available.

How many of you do LVAP hours? Volunteering is a powerful way to show that “thank you for your service” is more than just words—it is action. Our Community Impact Day is April 5, 2025, for DAV—a virtual event where you can pledge your time as a volunteer at communityimpactday.org. Why not pledge some time. Pledge your time and if your schedule does not fit the date do it as close as you can to the date. If you want to share your experience with others go to dav.memfox.io/communityimpactday and tell National about your volunteer service. Let us all pledge a little time for this worthwhile cause and let National know that Wisconsin is an active Department.

State Capitol Advocacy Day is April 22, 2025, 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM. We have a full day scheduled for advancing our causes to our state representatives. You can register at wilegion.org/its-happening. Last year was a huge success and we are hoping to have an even better showing this year.

Our District Meetings are here. I have listed your District meeting information. I have added some information as it has become available so get Involved! At your District meetings, you can receive training, stay informed, and support candidates campaigning for Department Officer positions. It is also a time for camaraderie with your fellow DAV members.

  • District 1: May 3, 2025, Fort Atkinson, WI, 10:30 AM – 3:00 PM. There will be food, but the details are not available. You will be voting for District officers.
  • District 2: April 12, 2025, Marshfield, WI, 1200 until done. Pizza Ranch Buffet is the menu.
  • District 3: April 19, 2025, Ladysmith, WI, 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM. The meal is chicken not ham. You will be voting for District officers.
  • District 4: April 5, 2025, Green Bay, WI, 11:00 AM – Until concluded. There will be a build your own salad and sandwich bar.

State & National Conventions

  • Department Convention, June 12–14, 2025, Oneida Convention Center & Casino, Green Bay, WI. This convention offers an experience similar to the National Convention but on a smaller scale. If you are unable to travel to Las Vegas, this is a great alternative. Your Chapters have received full details and there is additional information at dav-wi.org.
  • National Convention, August 9–12, 2025, Las Vegas, NV. If you have never attended a National Convention, this is the perfect opportunity! We vote on new line officers and resolutions. The event includes guest speakers, updates on DAV’s national initiatives, networking opportunities, and, of course, time to enjoy Las Vegas.
  • Veterans Golf Clinic, September 7–12, 2025, Riverside, IA. Whether you are playing or watching, this clinic offers a fantastic opportunity to support our veterans in the sport of golf. Volunteers assist both beginners and those reconnecting with the game.
  • We have PGA HOPE (Help Our Patriots Everywhere). It is a flagship military program of the PGA of America. Between March and December, they have training for military veterans free of cost. The 6-8 week one day a week, PGA professionals teach classes. Go to www.wisconsin.pga.com/pga-hope/, register, and learn more.
  • DAV & Auxiliary State Fall Conference, October 15–17, 2025, Holiday Inn, Stevens Point, WI. More to follow, as we get closer to the date.

DEPARTMENT ADJUTANT

JOHN POLK

First, I want to thank Green Bay Chapter 3 for once again offering to provide a transportation van for the Veterans Day at the Capitol. This piece of logistics, providing a ride from Monona Terrace to the Capitol building for those in need, greatly expands the number of people that can and will attend. Thank You.

It has recently been pointed out that the Department has no resources or sources of revenue to help veterans in need. To help address this shortcoming the Dept has decided to bring back the raffle. Read more
