Paul and his companions, upon coming to Ephesus, find a fledgling church that believes in Jesus but does not know about God’s gift of the Holy Spirit.
“We have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit,” they said.
The Holy Spirit is God’s gift to each and every believer and the means by which we experience God’s presence and action in our lives.
In Acts, we discover that it is the Spirit that gives the disciples the power to be true witnesses to the resurrected Christ. The Spirit communicates to them in visions and dreams so that they can know and do God’s will. And the Spirit empowers them to speak in tongues and prophesy.
When Paul discovers that the believers in Ephesus have not experienced the gift of the Holy Spirit he prays for them and when he lays hands upon them, “the Holy Spirit came upon them and they spoke in tongues and prophesied.”
One thing the Book of Acts clearly reveals is that the Spirit is for truly for everyone.
The Spirit is Jesus’ gift for every believer, even you.
