RIDING THE
OHIO TO ERIE TRAIL
August 5 - 12, 2018

Thank you for your interest in Rails-to-Trails of Wayne County.
This 8 day series about the OTET ride will be sent daily from August 5 - 12.

Special thanks to organizer and promoter Keith Workman
for taking us - and you - along on this journey!

We have been leaving early every morning because of the weather, either the heat or the chance of rain. Today was cloudy and cool but a high probability of rain.

It started sprinkling soon after we left for our 40 mile day.

We had a long section of roads between Galena and Centerburg.  Sometimes we stop for a break along the road.  While the group is welcome to ride on their own, they often choose to stay in one group, so they don't have to watch for the directional signs along the way.

Centerburg, the reason for the name of the trail, was our stop for lunch. (see photo below)

A special monument marks the highest point on the CA&C Railroad, the abandoned railroad which is now trail.

Ariel Foundation Park in Mt. Vernon

The former PPG plant, a plate glass making factory was abandoned and converted into a wonderful park by the Ariel Foundation.

The stairway built around the smoke stack go up to the viewing platform 140 feet in the air.

If you look closely you can see four of our riders standing at the bottom.

The view from the top of the stack.  That's Keith down there on his bike.

There is much to explore at the Ariel Park.

Mt. Vernon has a very nice restored depot at their trailhead.

This impressive map of the OTET is on the wall in the Mt. Vernon depot.
Each stop is identified by a photo of their original depot.

This photo of the old  bridge in Mt. Vernon was captured at just the right moment.

It was a great day, we didn't get too wet, we saw great sights
and we were done by 1:15.
